Default Need help launching

I just got a 02 firehawk m6. I'm a rookie to the 6 speed and need a lil advice on launching it. Are there any special techniques on launching them? Should i turn the traction control off or leave it on? Can you guys help me out?

Absolutely no Traction control - turn that puppy off. Lower your tire pressure to around 22 lbs.(I'm assuming their stock tires), and practice, practice, practice. It's all in the launch, after that, make sure you don't shift 3 - 2 (it hurts). Good luck.

ya tell me about the 3-2 shift, get rid of the stock shifter! That thing is deadly. Now on to the launching, go around the water box, not through it! Do a small burn out to get rocks and crap of your tires. I rev up to 2k and drop the clutch, not much bog. After that you should be fine.

I've done that 3-2 a couple of times . Doesn't sound or do any good to the poor car. What type of shifter would you recommend?

best way to launch with stock tires an clutch is to ride it out, not dump it. just dont ride it forever and burn it up or get off it to quick and smoke the tires. take a few practice runs to get it right. i pulled high 1.8's on eagle gsa's which aint bad for a stock 6 speed with a few bolt ons.

Hand placement on the shifter will almost eliminate the chance of 3-2 even with the stock one. Thumb down, back of hand facing driver and pull down for 3-4 shift, worst that can happen is to hit 6.

Yep, get rid of that POJ shifter. Get you a Ripper or a Pro 5.0 or find you a used Hurst like I did. World of difference. I also use Lou's short stick. Never miss them gears anymore....Good luck

I did the 3-2 shift once with the stock shifter and once with the Pro 5.0. But ever since using the above technique, I haven't missed fourth.

I had a comaro ss that was a A4. What I would usually do is break and get the rpms up to about 1400. It work pretty good.

Yeah, I currently have an A4, and for a beginning driver (like I was when I got my car), there is NOTHING better. You can do the break / gas dance if you like, but I just did a 1 - 2 punch, and let her rip. Right foot off break, and down hard on gas.... Wow I loved learning this car.

Not that I have any clue what I'm talking about, but what i've heard around is that if you've upgraded your torque converter, do the torque braking thing. If you're still stock on the TC/Gears, then just punch it. But taking advice from me on racing is not a good idea.

If they are street tires do not lower the air pressure. The inside of the tire will bow giving you less traction. Run them at about 30 psi. Now the front tires, fill them to the max. Unless you know you have good traction you're going to need to slip the clutch. Do it just like a dump but slower. Clutch foot comes out about as fast as your gass goes down. Keep the revs at around 2500. Get a shift light also.
