Question about Cams and Engine Loping
Hey everyone, to start off I'm buying an LS1 in August (Still deciding on WS6 Trans Am or C5 Vette...we'll see) and I had a question about using aftermarket cams and the loping sound they create.
Although the sound is awesome to me, will an aftermarket cam damage the engine???
Some quick reading and it seems that the loping is caused by a pollution of the air/fuel mixture. Caused by what I'm guessing is the overlap of the intake and exhaust steps. If this causes misfiring in the engine, does this mean that an aftermarket cam causing constant misfiring will be damaging the engine or reduce engine life? From my understanding the misfires stop when driving because the rpms are higher, but I could be wrong.
Thanks in advance for the advice. I'm just now learning about cam profiles etc so any advice is appreciated!
