A4 Shifting Hard into 2nd
Hello,
I have a 4l60-e that has a very hard 1-2 shift, only on the up-shift. I was thinking that it is the shift solenoid, but I am not 100%. The previous owner was not the first owner and mentioned he thinks a shift kit may be installed, but every other gear change is not as hard as the the 1-2. Is there any way of easily checking the shift solenoid? Where is it located?
Thank you.

This could be normal, if in fact a shift kit was installed. I've had several built/shift kitted automatics, and the 1-2 shift always feels harder than 2-3 or 3-4....just how much harder has depended on the specifics of the kit installed.
If nothing has been modified within the trans or the tune though, then 1-2 shouldn't feel any different than any other gear change.

I honestly thought my Frost Tuned A4 shifted a little too firm from 1-2...it was great under hard acceleration, but under normal driving it could be pretty jarring. I ended up getting used to it and lifting when I felt the shift coming, to ease into it. I agree with Rev, you need to first find out if anything has been done to alter the tranny before having Frost do his thing.
