Default Best "cam only" max performance cam

Hi guys! Sorry for the lame post but it's been years since I've been around ls cars. Back then the big cams were the Trex and MS4. What is the biggest cam out there now that will clear stock valve and piston ls1s?

Thanks!

Well the stock valves haven't changed so that's still about as big as you can go lol

The Brian Tooley Racing Stage IV N/A camshaft would be my cam of choice. I have personally seen this cam make some ridiculous power with good drivability. Here is a link to it directly off the Brian Tooley Racing website:

http://www.briantooleyracing.com/nat...-camshaft.html

One car I setup with this cam made 420 RWHP to the tires through a TH400 and 9" rear end with a spool. Besides the badass power that the car made it also has very good drivability and can really be driven anywhere.

TRex, MS4, Tsunami, FMS Godzilla, Ed Curtis/FTI Hellion cam, Polluter, Vindicator, etc. Take your pick. Just make sure you have full bolt-ons and a damn good tuner, or else you'll be hating life.

perhaps a local tuner can make a custom cam to fit your needs.

The function of the 4 cycle engine hasn't changed in 4 years. In fact, the LS1 itself hasn't changed in 4 years. So why would you think the cams that make the most power would have changed?

So while the specs of the cams haven't changed much, doesn't mean that the cams themselves haven't. There's a slew of different lobes floating around the internet that make just as much power (if not more) than the previous lobes you were around back then and are easier on the valvetrain and quieter. That's where the "tech" went, not the duration of the cam.

I went with the similar BTR Stage III

I like the Vindicator from Vengeance. Great power under the curve for a cam that size.

My motor is all stock. I want to give it a little more power. Already looking at headers and exhaust. Is replacing the cam the right way to go or is there some other things I need to do first?

Auto or manual car? If auto you will need a stall and a trans cooler. Also, you will need supporting mods to go with the cam...lifters, springs, maybe oil pump, etc. That said, yes a cam is a logical direction to go next after full exhaust/bolt on's.

It's auto. I'm looking at headers, x-pipe, 3" all the way. What stall do you suggest? Trans cooler?

Like the polluter here. All good choices mentioned though.

Do the exhaust first. You will need a stall, size will depend on your cam selection. Do not skimp on a tranny cooler either, that will be a must.
