LS1 Engine noise help!

LS1 Engine noise help! Just a shot in the dark hoping someone has had this happen specifically in a 4th gen. When my 2001 SS M6 is on and at idle out of gear I can rev the motor and I don't hear anything out of the norm. When I'm in gear and put a load on, I hear a clanking sound that sounds like it's coming from the left side of the motor. It won't do it out of gear but will do it in gear. I don't feel like it's my tranny but who knows. Other then the sound no performance issues. To me it sounds like the rockers are clanging on the valve covers but I'm in the car and can't produce the sound out of the car especially when it only happens when accelerating. Once I steady out it not audible.
