Anti-theft or ignition switch I would guess. Do you have an alarm on this vehicle or the stock VATS type stuff?

It only has stock anti theft.just a red blinking light on the dash.I'm hoping that the new started I put in will be the solution

Now I think I have a bigger problem than the starter..all my dash lights, radio, gauges, headlights, blinkers, traction control and stability control turn on and off while I'm driving down the road but I can turn them back on by turning the key like I'm trying to start it

In order for my blinkers to work I have to turn the key over.forgot to mention also headlights turn off real quick then turn back on while I'm driving

Is your battery connections clean, kinda sounds like a dirty ground problem somewhere in system. Years ago a friend had a 81 trans am did same similar with taillights. every time it rained his lights wouldn't work. ended up being grounds.

I would check and make sure your grounds are good as well then look into the BCM(body control module). Do a search for "Camaro bcm" and you'll find plenty. Not so uncommon an issue on aging F-body cars. Starting and most of the lights and such run through this. It would be helpful information to see of you can get a response from the PCM with a scan tool when the key is in but the dash lights won't work.

I guess we should have started with basics..what kind of vehicle is this?

I am not familiar with that car.

So is it starting now or no? Are the "while driving" symptoms occurring now or previously when the car would start and drive?

It only starts by jumping it from starter to solenoid and everything goes haywire in park or driving.it has a 5.3 liter

Sounds like it could be a problem with the ignition tumbler. GM tumblers are known to develop problems especially when owners hang a bunch of heavy stuff on their key rings.

Curious here. Was the other ECM defective, or was it the wrong type?
