Question '02 Power adders and reliablity?

I have an '02 M6 (WS6) and I am looking for some extra power that will keep my car reliable. I read in HPP when someone asked about adding to their LT1 the answer was bolt ons (heads/cam, etc.). Is this true for the LS1? I am considering MTI's 485hp head/cam pkg, but I am not certain. They claim the pkg will retain the same driveability and near stock gas mileage (which I would like as much as gas costs now), but I need to pass inspections, and don't want something that you can hear coming for miles. Has anyone who has done a heads/cam swap have any imput to share with a newbie? Are you sasisfied with your modifications? What about supercharging afterwards? Is that possible or even reccomended? I am not wanting a total strip car, just a street car with ATTITUDE.
Any suggestions??

Default

start with the bolt ons first; lid, catback, headers, ect. then when your car is prepped look into h/c. i suggest you just setup up shop, get a case of cold beer, and start just reading. theres enough tech info here to make your head spin . "near", "almost" stock are relative terms and take them with a grain of salt. what type of emissions do you have?
