Replacing Power Steering

Replacing Power Steering
Hello!!
Picked up a 2002 SS last week which has had the power steering & AC deleted.
First objective is to see about putting the power steering unit back in. Anybody have any knowledge or experience putting in doing so?
This is my third camaro but first LS, so a little new to them. No stranger to the work, but like a said, a little guidance would be fantastic. A list of the needed parts would be really helpful. I'm assuming the pulley, resevoir, pump and some hoses but what else am I missing?
Thanks

without seeing it i assume they used a shorter serpentine belt and maybe removed an idler pulley. going back to oem steering would be fairly simple - get all parts listed for your make/model/year from rockauto/autozone/napa/wherever.
the power steering pressure hose to the steering gear part of the rack is easy to get,
but the return hose from there is not available that i've seen.
whether you need a new steering rack i don't know, but they are easy to get and prices vary.
rackdoctor.net and other mail order places have been recommended over rockauto/autozone for getting a replacement rack... for the power steering return hose that's no longer available the mail order places may be able to help you source one.
whether you want to add in a power steering cooler on the low pressure return between the rack and pump reservoir is up to you.
for power steering pump they are easy to get,
turnone makes a nice unit with their style pulley which makes installing easy, but it's pricey.

Thank you very much for the helpful information. The sites were helpful to find most of the parts I will need. I think I saw a return pump on ebay, but who knows how trustable it may be.
I watched a few videos and turnone was actually the most represented throughout so I will be definitely looking into them. Looks like I could probably put all back on for around $500. Could be worse.
Thanks again.

just a thought, but I would recommend that you get the power steering pulley from Turn One. It is a much nicer piece than the factory one, and it makes installing the pump much easier.

If you do go out and buy a new steering pump from Turn One,buy it from this site sponsor WS6store.

If you are installing a new rack and the old one is original you will need to chop the heads off the bolts to get them to drop through and when you put the new one back in put the bolts in through the bottom. Make sure you get a rack for a V8 car not the 6 they are different. If you are down there check the short shaft from the rack. It has a rubber bushing inside a steel housing. Mine melted and caused a real headache to find why the steering was so vague.
