Default Complete newbie with questions...

All:

I have an LC9 5.3 GM genIV out of a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup. Photo below.

Questions;

1. Is this an LS motor? (I suspect not, which would explain why it's called an LC).

2. What's missing? Do I need the timing cover & oil pump? Or just the power steering pump, alternator, water pump, belt tensioner & air conditioner compressor?

3. What oil should I use in it? What's the best filter?

Thanks,

Paul.

Its LS based...

you need the front setup (water pump, PS pump, tensioner and idler pulley, Alternator and AC compressor if you want to have AC)

5w30 is fine for that engine

what vehicle is it going in

Add to that list ignition coils(brackets and harnesses), PCV and other vacuum hoses, steam vent pipe hose/tube, MAF, wiring harness, intake tube, air filter assembly...but that's probably coming after the "what vehicle" question. The timing cover is there right behind the crank pulley and we'll assume since the oil pump sits underneath it that it's there as well.

BTW, only the car engines have the "LS" prefix usually(LS1/2/3/6/7/9/A). Most of the truck engines differ(LM7/LR4/LY6/L92/etc.) but aren't far off.

6qts, right? Any particular brand preferred? Synthetic or Dino? It came with the wiring harness & brain- not sure what else. How much work will it be to put all the ancillaries on? I'm fairly handy (you have to be if you drive a Land Rover) but haven't done much engine work. Is there a good place to get help with how to assemble it?

Likely about 6 but not all are created equal. Check owner's manual for that particular (source)truck to make sure.

Strongly consider getting these books:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/07603...NkL&ref=plSrch

Thanks! Do they specifically cover the LC9? Or are the LS series close enough?

I'll crack the book when I get home but I am 99% sure that specific engine is referenced in a few of the tables. It's a gen IV VVT 5.3 and from that perspective, it's covered. LS, for the most part, is like Legos to me. Most of it all bolts together.

Anyone know what order the stuff goes on? Torque specs?

I'd really like to find one at a wrecking yard do I could document the disassembly, but our local yard is pretty small & I doubt I could find a complete LC9.

Water pump in the middle (belt tensioner gets bolted to water pump as well as idler pulley)

PS pump gets bolted to driver side lower block with a bracket.

Alternator gets bolted on above water pump next to throttle body with same bracket.

AC compressor gets bolted on another bracket thats gets attached to the lower passenger side block..

The book references gen IV 5.3s but the charts I skimmed, not specifically LC9. No matter though; with so many combos of aluminum or iron block, DoD, displacement, VVT, etc., it would be messy to separately address each. Has everything you need.

All truck accessory setups are interchangeable as far as bolting up. There are some differences in plugs for alt, AC..so you probably need to find a gen IV setup but shouldn't need to hold out for a full setup specifically from a LC9. 4.8 or 6.0 from simular truck should have workable accy. setups. I can't find my copy of the swap book specifically but I am pretty sure it covers these concerns.

Thanks! Any idea where I can find part numbers? I keep seeing this stuff on eBay but although it states '2007-2013', when I type in 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 (which is what the engine came from) it says 'This part WILL NOT fit your vehicle.
