Exclamation Waking up the ls1

I ran my 99 z28 camaro at the track and it ran in the 8's stock but I was wondering what is a good way to really wake up the engine? I was thinking maybe to get a turbo but **** my engine is almost at 184,000 miles. I'm confused a'f where to start...

do long tube headers really work, even with a tune Or dont they make you lose back pressure at all?

Yes they work, you will see about 30 rear wheel horse power gain with them.

Here is a break down of a few of my mods.

Bone stock A4 w/2.73 gears
1/8
9.0 @ 80 mph

1/4
13.8 @ 101 mph

Lt headers, tune, drag radials
1/8
8.7 @ 84 mph

1/4
13.2 @ 107 mph

yank ss3600, 3.73's, Ls6 intake
1/8
7.8 @ 88 mph

1/4
12.2 @ 111 mph

Back pressure is BAD BAD BAD for power. Losing back pressure is a GOOD thing. Back pressure = resistance to your motor = horsepower loss. Headers greatly improve power over stock manifold. Your confusing back pressure with exhaust velocity.

OP, the simple mods listed above will make the car feel like a completely different car.

Long tubes are an excellent mod for a LS1 (any LS for that matter).

No disrespect to you OP just educating, back pressure is ALWAYS bad. The misconception comes from ricers who put too wide of pipe diamater on their 4 cyl cars and the car fell flat on its face because it had lost exhaust velocity. Just remember back pressure ALWAYS = less power. Its physics.

if you do add power at some point you may get wheelhop. add some suspension parts such as LCA's , & SFC's maybe torque arm & panhard bar. just to make sure you plant all your power to the ground. edit dont forget the easy stuff like air lid; on a 99 cut the thing hanging down in the ls1 intake; free ram air or cold air induction.

follow 98 cayennes recipe and you will be very happy.

Not only is it a great list he also added his results as he added the same setup he recommended to you which by the way is how anybody that has spent any time in the racing forums on here would go , this group of simple complimentary mods is simply time proven to provide great results. Add a transmission cooler when you do the convetor -it is needed as a supporting mod to deal with the added heat from the convertor.

And btw OP, not all certain stall speed convertors are equal, you get what to pay for. Yank is a good piece. I'm not an experienced auto guy, just do your homework regarding convertors and its not ideal to "cheap out" on one.

Can you do 100 on a stock internal motor (I'm guessing above 3800 RPM)? How much HP does it add at the peak, if you know?

On a good condition healthy stock LS1 should handle a 100 shot with ease for quite some time.
