Default Car Wont Start!!!!!(sometimes) Help Please

Hey,

let me describe my car...its a 2001 ws6 it has 12,000 miles. I bought it as a GM certified used vehicle. I've been driving it for about 5 months.(just to school, home, and work. Which equals to 15 miles a day) so i do not drive alot. I pump 91 of course.

PROBLEM: SOMETIMES the car just wont start...it takes about 3-4 cranks to get it started, and this happens once every 1-2 weeks.
NOTE: usually happens on cold mornings (here in california cold = 60-70degree weather). But, today after work it wouldnt start either...and it wasn't cold, it was actually warm.

Is there anyone who can help me? Please feel free to give me suggestions or anything, even if this has happens to you before. i would appreciate any kinds of help.

When it fails to start, is the security light on?

I have the same question. Maybe the VATS (vehicle anti-theft system) is enabled.

Check the three basics...

1. Fuel
2. Air
3. Spark

Maybe get some Lucas injector cleaner, change the fuel filter, and the spark plugs like people suggested. Hopefully it will work, but I would get too worried about it.

if the car cranks over but don't start take a look at the ignition and starter relays under the hood..

next switch the 2 and see if your car starts
if it does you got a bad ignition relay..

my ignition relay went bad and it was doing the same thing as your car..

don't waste your time on filter, wires ect...try this simple swap it takes 2 minutes to do and it will eliminate one of your problems if it happens not to be your problem..

hope this helps

Some times you really have to stab the clutch to the floor hard though... Just a thought.

Does the security light come on and stay on when it doesnt start? Does the car crank over or does just the lights/radio come on? If your security light comes on and only your lights & radio come on its your PASSKey II wires breaking apart in your ignition column. Thats about a $6 fix from radio shack. Search here for "PASSkey II" or "VATS bypass" it is very simple to do. I had to do it to my car about a month ago. Works great now.

At the very least get your alt. and battery tested at AutoZone (its free) or something to make sure its not one of those 2 things. Simple things first.

Since your car cranks it is not a VATS, or Pass Key 2 problem.
That problem shuts the starter down as well. Been there, done that.
