You probably need to take it to your local GM dealer, they most likely can do that.

The odometer reading comes from the PCM. The digital display you see is stored in the PCM's non-volatile memory so it never gets erased.

Swap gauge clusters all you want, your milage will appear the same on all of them unless you swap the PCM.

Negative. A cluster swap will show the miles from the new cluster.

However I was wondering if it is also stored in the pcm? I have been driving with 3.42s and put a lot of extra miles on it.

not stored in PCM, they have to reprogram it via a TECH-II into your cluster. Check out the '99 TSB about it . . .

I can confirm that swapping PCMs will not effect the odometer reading.

Sorry, my brother-in-law took out the cluster fuse when he got a job that required him to drive his car and after six months when he reconnected the fuse the odometer displayed the miles before he took out the fuse.

That is exactly right. The speedo and gas gauge won't work...neither will the odometer.

**DISCLAIMER - THAT IS FRAUD AND WE DON'T CONDONE THAT**

Ok, I've said my piece.

note: on the dash cluster fuse, it may not stop the bcm from incrimenting

For the cluster, you will either be able to plug in a 0000000 cluster and it may program itself, otherwise you will need to take it to a dealer for calibration.

you can't program a cluster that is not new.

search the V6 sites, as they swap in V8 clusters, and have found a way to swap the "miles" over from the v6 to the v8, im sure this method could work for the ls1 to ls1 cluster

What does this mean? And when you say MAY, does that mean you are not sure. I called the chevy place today and ask them about changing the milage since i have put extra miles on my car from changing gears and he actually said to take out the fuse until i got it back right. But said not to say he said so. I kinda know this guy tho.

It's my understanding that the mileage is held in the cluster and the bcm. A cluster swap will show the mileage from the new cluster;however, the bcm still holds the actual mileage.

I'm 100% sure that pulling the cluster fuse will stop the odometer (and alot of other gauges). I'm told that the bcm still holds the car's actual mileage though. So a dealer could check that.

right.

I haven't had the chance to play with a tech II yet, to see if the BCM milage counts when the dash fuse is blown. But my understanding of the way the electronics in the car work, the dash fuse has nothing to do with the bcm, and it will keep track of the actual miles.

I just say "may" as im not 100% sure, and don't mislead people in my posts.

Slow - I've never done it personally, but I'm told there is a relay or something under the car near the tranny that won't allow the bcm to record mileage once if the relay is unplugged. I'm horrible with electronics so take it FWIW.

The dealer can reflash your new cluster...or are you trying to alter your stock cluster?

a dealer can only reflash a 0000000 cluster to my knowledge.
