uhh if im undrestanding you right, you NEUTRAL-DROPPED the tranny!!!! by skids out, do u mean when you put the car back in gear, you broke the tires loose and skidded??? if, so you're lucky you didnt break the tranny on the spot! if you're going to put the car in neutral and rev at someone, WAIT until the RPM comes ALL THE WAY back down before you even think about putting it back into gear....i can't stress enough how bad it is to neutral drop any automatic transmission, let alone a relatively weak 4L60E....

Well, I think you may have lucked out on this one. I wouldn't do it again, though. You may have caused some stress problems that are just waiting to go. If it worries you, get it sonic tested. If it really worries you, go to one of our fine sponsors for a race prepped or built tranny.

He is asking if your tires spun? yes or no.

if yes, that means you basically reved ur car to a high rpm and slammed it back in gear which is a good way to screw it up.

Just give it a chance to drop back down below 1000 RPM. When i first got my car i gave it a revv at the light then kicked it back into drive and it jerked me foward and scratced the tires. from then on I learned it must be below 1k. just be sure to revv long before the light turns green don't hurry in throw it in drive like i did. oh well cars fine.

if the car still drives, i THINK you got away with it but as was stated DON'T do that again. it could get expensive.

Are you sure that you didn't accidentally hit reverse a little when you went into neutral?

I did a neutral drop once (light turned green).though i was only taching like 1,200 it still jolted the car pretty hard.

back in high school a friend of mine raced a guy in a 2000 v6 automatic mustang (it had cobra emblems on it, so we raced him for the snakes. it was a funny sight watching him pry off the emblems with a screw driver at 1:00 am) this guy would rev to like 4,500 and do a neutral drop takeing off down the 1/4. they raced 3 times because the first 2 the guy said he couldnt get a good launch, go figure...........

Just put a stall in it. I can rev all day while in drive as long as I don't nail the throttle

i put my old 2nd gen firebird in reverse once (on accident) while going about 50. i was going down a big hill while and was trying to put it into neutral, it chirped, rev'd, and i thought for sure i lunched it. but i drove on that tranny for 3 or 4 years and it never went south.

your tranny should be fine if thats all you did. just try not to do it again.

my relatively small 3500 stall will give you a nice rev to nearly 3 grand if you just hit it quick...i never put my car in N just to throw a rev while driving.

It's been beaten to death already, but in case you needed one more comfortor... yes, it's normal, no it's not great for your tranny, but the odds of you having broken it are slim to none. I've done what you're discribing twice on accident also..... Good advice on the long before the light goes green. As a side not, my buddy had a '91 RS w/ the 305 and 700R4..... We used the rev the crap out of it and drop her into drive..... lots of smoke and sound, but it was all from the tires. Probably did it over a dozen times, and never had a problem with it.
