I put six quarts in my 98 with the small filter. I do not want it to starve for oil if I take a long sweeping turn.

5.5 quarts in an fbody. 6.5 in a corvette due to the different oil pan.

Yes, it will.

We measured and the lower end of the pan will hold 7qts.

Here are some pics ...

5 quarts - notice how it covers the baffle, but is still contained in the lower end?

6 quarts - notice how it fills the slanted portion. Also, notice the "dimple" where the slanted portion and the shallow end meet? That is clearance for the crankshaft.

7 quarts - notice how the water just reaches that dimple. So, if the crank will clear the pan, it will clear the oil level.

Now consider subtracting from the pan's level what gets caught inside the motor and almost a whole quart in the filter and there is plenty margin.

Like I said, I run 7 almost al the time.

I would use 5.5 like the owners manual says.

I use 6 to acount for the 1/2 qt oil usage, and its easier than messing with a half of a quart.
