Cool Question about bypassing EGR

I just put a new LSX intake on my 98 LS1. This intake does not have provision for the EGR tube that feeds to my old intake (stock). I was told by several sources that I could by-passing the EGR by making a block-off plate but I would have a check engine light fault code.

Without a programmer is there any way for me to overwite of eliminate this fault code?

Well you can cut a hole thru the intake but it also states it not really necessary.
