I know the diff in the body( hood, wing) and SS has ram air. Is there more? Some guys said that SS has larger cam? Is it true?

The SS is the "rice" version of the f-body with its ornimental trim including mean hood,tall spoiler and bling bling wheels.Unsuspecting buyers paying the exorbitant $3600.00 mark-up could buy ad ons that would prove near usless in a performance
advantage and increase SLP profits.Street wise peeps bought the Z/28s that were less conspicious and 9 times out of 10 were faster.

to each his own but in my opinion the SS ""rice" version of the f-body" looks much better. your right about the conspicious look of the Z28. the SS spoiler, hood, wheels look much more aggressive and powerful. I wanted the SS name after owning several other SS nova's, and chevelle's in the past.

I don't know who you have been racing. the straight line performance between the Z28 and SS is very close, but personaly i've found the SS is useualy alittle faster due to the better flowing exhaust. (which i know dosent matter as most people get differant exhaust as there first mod anyway)

ive beat a few SS ived raced,and im completely stock,02 Z28.man,im tired of having to say that!they were 96-00 though,i dont think i could beat an 01-02 stock for stock.but catback,lid,bellows,k&n,here i come! next month.

Dude, I doubt the Z28 beat the SS 9 times out of 10. That's bullshit. They are pretty much the exact same. Same suspension, same engine, cam, internal ****. The only real difference is the exterior, that's it. The only thing that sets Z28's and SS's apart are mods. A modded Z28 would beat an stock SS, and an modded SS would beat a stock Z28. It also depends on the driver as well. IMHO, I think the rear spoiler on the SS looks much better than the spoiler on the Z28. Same with the hood scoop, even though it does not have functional ram air. I bought my SS to be a little more "unique" and also because my father owned a 1st/2nd gen Camaro SS before me. A lot of people have V6 Camaros, a lot of people have Z28's, but not everyone has an SS.

I wouldn't venture so far as to call it "riced" . You might as well be calling the earlier gen SS models riced for sporting stripes and unique badges. My definition of rice is when you buy a bunch of stickers for parts you don't have and slap them on your car, huge *** 4 inch fart tippers, and big *** wings. Oh oh, don't forget queer *** exterior paint colors. What's funny is, a lot of the camaros that I've seen and considered "riced" were usually Z28's. Not ragging on Z28s, I like them as well, and almost bought one. I just ended up getting an SS because I found it in good condition and for a decent price. Here's an example of a Z28 "riced".



Whoever riced out this Z28 should be reminded that this is not a damn import, but an American classic muscle car, and then promptly shot in the head.

Yeah an SS is definately not riced in any way shape or form. It does have slightly better performance than a Z28. People who say the SS has bigger cam or anything that simple bolt ons (cat-back, lid) won't surpass are full of ....... and want you to think that the extra $3500 they spent on the SS was performacne justified when they know $150 spent on a Z28 for a cut-out and a lid will turn the Z28 around and beat the SS no questions asked. Either that or the fact that it's rated 15 hp higher really makes them feel as though it's fater.

Eh.... I think the SS badging is cool to have. The guys are right when they say it sets them a little apart from the Z28's. Performance wise, who the hell cares... nothing's staying stock for long anyway. Me, I've got the Z28 w/ the RS body package on it. Most people hate it, but for me it's what took me forever to find, and I'm keeping it. I'm even consitering changing out the Z28 bading for some nice RS badging. Then it'll be a Stang / Rice magnet.

Is the gearing in the SS different than the Z28 for automatics?
I like the looks of the SS and there rare compared to the Z28s. I don't think there riced out because they still have that muscle car appearance even with the stripes down the top of the car. I would liked to had the 2002 SS Limited Edtion but I already had the 2001 and the price was $36000 which I thought was way to much compared to what a Z28 priced for.

No, the gearing is the same. SS, Z28, WS6, Formula, they are all essentially the same....capt usa, i have the body kit as well and think it looks rather nice, if i didnt have it i would have lowered the car.....BTW I think JRP had it and took it off his car...................LOSER!!!

Actually the gearing may be different. All SS came with 3.23's, it was an option on Z28's, 2.73's were standard. I'm not sure if this applies to all years, but in the recent past it does. Personally I bought the SS for the suspension and to stand out a little from the z's. I had a z at one time but prefer the looks and handling of the ss stock for stock.

The SS badges add like 20 horsepower to your car.

I love em! Plus they help keep the car down when doing about 162. The ground effects really serve a purpose. Mine is black with a six speed. Hurst.
