i HATE Ls1s
alright, i bought a 2000 trans am with 30k miles. It blew blue smoke and consumed a quart every 800 miles or so. I bitched at the dealship and told them to fix it, so they swapped me a new LS1 out of another car and the new motor they put in had 18,000 on it, DOES THE SAME EXACT THING. Is this normal? is it okay to see blue smoke when i get on it, and eat oil like a SOB. I cant belive i went through two LS1 both under 30k miles and they BOTH smoke, they both smell like fricken 2 stroke. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?! SHOULD I GET RID OF IT AND GET OUT OF THE GM WORLD AND BUY A STANG!?!?!? IM PISSED.

The dealer put in a used motor?
There is an oil consumption issue with LS1's, but nothing like you describe. My old '00 Z28 would burn a quart every 3,000 miles or so. There was no visible blue smoke (oil being burned up). Have you had a compression/leak down test done? There must be some other problem than the normal piston slap/oil consumption thing.
...and as for stangs, my '03 Cobra with 6,000 miles on it has been sitting in my garage for 3 weeks with overheating problems.

Have U tried a catch can and the other Mods for oil consumption, mine Burns oil, but aslong as its not a continous smoke I just put oil in it. But with my new catch can it has gone down on the consumption.

Let me be the first to crap all over this thread-- I Believe this is for New LS1 Enthusiasts-- not guys who are mad because they have ruined their cars. Isn't there a junkyard or somewhere else you guys could post? Go ahead and get your Mustang-- most of them come with a hole shot.

I drove a 2800 mile trip to Miami Beach FL from PA and back and didnt burn a teaspoon. I ended up driving the car another 1000 miles after the trip and still not a drop. I changed the oil and have been driving it for about 2000 miles since, so I checked it yesterday and its done a 1/2 quart. I have read before the LS1's are known for this.
This is def the dealerships issue, take it back on them. I can't believe they replaced it with a used motor. They will take advantage of you if you are not careful. Good luck

my 98' ls1 has all kinds of mods, including nitrous...and will burn 1/2 quart tops between oil changes, come to think of it i've never had a single problem w/ the car...the dealer must have gotten a bad batch of ls1's, mistakes happen...that is what the warranty is for-and ive never heard of a dealer using a used engine to cover a warranty problem...smells fishy to me.
chill out about doggin the ls1's, remember you are in a ls1 domain and saying your goin to purchase a mustang over a f-body is fightin words IMO.....if you want to bitch about how ls1's suck, there are plenty of mustang message boards out there that will play the violin for you...the ls1 is an excellent design and has much to be proud of....so chill out and enjoy your ls1

I think all the dealer did was change your bank balance. I doubt they swaped the motor. By the way, my ls1 has 90k and and is great with oil. I only have to add at oil changes, though I check it regularly.

they cost to much
they are addictive
