Default radar detector battle

i'm going to buy one, but its a tough choice. i drive by alot of building etc so i dont want one going off every time i drive past the mall, so ive narrowed it down to the passport 8500 x50 and the v1. ive heard the v1 is slightly better, but it the +100$ justifiable?

Do a search on this board and then compare...
The top two of choice are Valentine and the Passport.

Get the Valentine V1. I was a consultant for two years and traveled 640 miles per week in my truck on the highways of South Carolina and Georgia. I never got a ticket! It saved me countless times and alot of money! The key is the V1 counts the bogies and tells you if they in back or front. One time there were two cops spread out about 2 miles from one another shooting radar. The V1 show two radar signals in front of me, I slowed down passed the first one and then the V1 showed the one in back and another radar still in front. I kept my speed down, everbody else sped up. Sure enough the second cop was pulling everybody over and I just slowly passed them by.

Worth every penny and then some.

I mounted my V1 above the rear view mirror of my Z. Here is the website that sells the V1 mounts:
http://www.greatlakestrophies.com/corvette.htm

Look down the page and you will see it is for a corvette but also worked great for my camaro.

I have put my V1 and a friends passport 8500 side by side. From the front they are close but if a cop gets behind you the V1 really shows how good it is. The escort seemed to have more false alarms. Plus it tells you what direction they are coming from.

This link should help you make up your mind.....

The escort is good but the V1 is worth the extra money. I put mine over my rear-view and mounted the remote display on my dash under the cluster. Worth every penny.

V1 Got it, and there is nothing else that can touch it. Trust me when I say don't waste your time buying anything from passport...all I have to say is planned obsolescence.

I have a Cobra XR1010 that I am selling b/c when I got my T/A it came with built in radar by escort. Anyway, I thought the built in radar was the best radar out there, b/c it has front and rear mounted sensors. Well my buddy has a V1, and we did a comparison. To my surprise the V1 picked up the officer about a good 5 seconds before my built in radar did traveling at about 30mph.

However, I did notice that the V1 has a lot more false alarms, but its a give and take situation. My decision, is to go with the V1.

the passport is much better than the valentine, the valentine does not detect POP3 radar guns which are also called super bee radar. also passport is better against false alarms than the valentine, tho valentine is very good, for the money the passport is better and you get more.

this link will persuade you: http://www.radarbusters.com/support/...mendations.asp you will have to read more articles as it will also examine the valentine vs the passport

most web sites like that are biased. notice that every radar detector that they say is "just as good as, if not better" they sell? there probably not making any money off that one

I bought mine almost 2 years ago, and have never had a problem w/ it, and they haven't come out w/ a new one. Also, when new threats are discovered, you can download them from Passport to keep your protection current. Saved me from a few tickes AT LEAST. I've never used the V1, but did a ton of homework on the two units before I ended up with the passport, and the passport was tops. Also, you can manually set the paramaters of you passport, so as to not give you the false signals. I have X band disabled on mine, because the only thing using X around here are automatic doors, and drive throughs. K band is old and rare, so I have it's sensitivity turned down. When my Passport starts to go off, Smoky is in the area. It's almost a gaurrantee.
Oh, and California is one of those preciouse few states that uses the popup RADAR.

YUP,
BEL RX 65. (remote, voice alarm etc..)
Valantine is cool but no POP. With valantine you won't even know if there's cops around untill you get pulled over.
Do your homework and you will forget valantine one.
Radarbusters.com,speedzones.com etc...
E-bay has good prices and they are new in box.

Tommy
