Default Lid doesn't fit...

Okay, I have a Direct Flo lid and a K&N filter. My lid never seems to fit right (tight) and the front clips will not stay locked. How much of an impact does this make on the cars performance and/or car's ability to clean and filter the incoming air? One last thing, what can be done to remedy this situation, short of, buying a different lid? All input will be appreciated. This has been bugging me for sometime, and I have just now broke down and decided to ask.

Thanks,

JT

Try making sure that the tabs at the back of the lid are inserted into the the 4 little things that the tabs slide in. I had the same problem I could not get my whisper lid to stay closed it turned out to be the tabs at the end were not inserted right.

I had to shove mine in like a **** the first time, then I knew what it fit like and it was EZ. You have to get those rear tabs in. If it sticks up you're likely not going through the filter which isn't great for the car but prolly not devastating if it's just a small leak. You could always ghetto duct tape fix it until you get a new lid or fix yours.

Are you using the stock accordion bellow? If you are using an aftermarket bellow you might have to trim a little.

along the front of the lid, between the clips, make sure it is tucked in behind the bottom part of the airbox, thats what i have to do to mine to make the clips stay locked.

That is the same problem I had. If that lip dosnt get tucked under your clips will always pop off. That will fix your problem.

I would make sure that The lid is pushed in all the way into the MAF, and that the bellows are way back on the throttle body.Could be that the way you assembled it the assembly of everything is a bit longer than it should be, forcing the clips out and open. The lid should sit snug right behind the air box front lip.

Thanks again guys. I think the problem lies with the front of the lid not being tucked into the air box.

My MTI lid didn't fit either, it was pushing the MAss air down to much and the tabs didnt line up. I didnt call them yet, but I am sending it back.

The front probably isn't tucking cause the clips aren't pushed back enough.
Like said until you get it right, it will be a bitch, then really easy.
I have the same lid. Make sure you push down at the neck area and get
all the tabs then push back good on it. Just use sense so it doesn't break.

As someone else asked what bellow do you have, if aftermarket thats
adding to the problem.
