Question Third Gear Not Pulling as Hard

I have a 99 t.a. I have raced many other f-bodys and for some reason they all have a better third gear than me. I can be ahead a car and a half the first two gears and on third they close it up to half a car. What gives? The only thing they use that i dont is a kn air filter could this be it?

Maybe they have newer car's that might be a reason. The 01-02 have a better pull than 98-01 but I might be wrong.

not trying to call you out but could be the shifting??? the 1-2 shift is easy, but if you get a clean 2-3 shift (specially when powershifting) your pals can keep their RPMs up better and stay in their power band... Just a thought...

Nope. We both have headers, lid, and the camaro has a fast toys ram air and i have a bg ram air. So basically were the same. Could it be the weight difference (camaro vs. t.a.)?

it could be a problem with your car...or so it seems to me...the weight shouldn't play into it at 3rd gear only...in fact it should be near the beggining...so i'd say you may have a problem with something....are all the same tune??

Do you all have the 2.73 or 3.23 gears? That could have something to do with it although that should have an effect through every gear.

Do either of you have tuning?? If not then your cars tune could be off much more than the others. Headers make LS1s run really rich.

Im going with gears. you probably have 2.73's and the others probably have 3.23's. There is a way to tell what gears your rear has from a code on your doorjam, but I dont know what it is. Might try searching for it.

GU5 is the 3.23 gear code I think. Not sure about the 2.73s, maybe GU2 or GU1.

Well we all have 3.23 gears and all of us have headers. I'm thinking my cars just out of tune more than theres is.
