Default n00b here. advice requested.

i have an 87 rx7 turboII with a 99 ls1/t56. it runs great and its a blast to drive. all i need is more power. dyno numbers:

301.6 hp 300.2 tq NA
402.2 hp 443.7tq N20
403.8 hp 451.3 tq n20

stock ls1 with 100 shot nitrous works wet kit.

my goal is about 400 at the wheels without the squeeze. i do plan on going up to a 150 shot. what mods should i do to increase hp with the least amount of downtime, because this car is my only mode of transportation. people have told me that, with a cam, and tuning, i can gain 100 whp. is this true? sounds a bit extravagant to me, but i may be wrong. any and all help, guidance, and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. All the bolt-ons + heads and cam, yes. However, this is a process. Don't expect a shop to do it all in one day, and if you are doing it all at once - it's costly. If your looking for 100+ hp in one day. You're gonna need a Supercharger (costly as well). However, Supercharger + 150 shot = Good Luck.

You might get a better anwer in one of the Power Development sections.
Before you post your question there, do some searching and reading.
You also might want to check out the Hybrids section if you haven't already.

ok, i didnt want to be defiant of anyone, like all the guys telling me that a cam alone will give me 100 whp, but i really agree with you. i thought like a tr224 cam would give me maybe 40 rwhp if tuned properly... and that would be worth it. however, i dont want to get too crazy because, again, this is my daily driver and i want it to last a long time.

next question: what is a good programmer to buy? ive heard that hypertech is pretty basic and not very adjustable and then diablo is pretty adjustable and its a good programmer (33whp gain on a stock motor) and i hear lots of good stuff about ls1edit. any feedback?

Look at HPTuners or LS1Edit for tuning. They aren't an all in one handheld, but will be a better bargain in the long run. As far as cams go, there are a bunch ranging from mild to wild. A pretty wild cam can get you to 400rwhp on stock heads with the supporting bolt ons and upgrades (you'll need valve springs and pushods for the cam and headers, filter and exhaust to let it make power). Since your LS1 is a '99, you'll also want to look at an LS6 intake (or possibly an LS2). I would check out the Dyno Archive section to get an idea of what cam X and mod y end up making as far as power.

It is almost common knowledge (i hope) that a cam only LS1 can make 400 rwhp (M6, or locked auto). ~40+rwhp is probably par for a mid size, healthy cam (224) with tune. Underdrive pullies? Ported throttle body? LS6/LS2 intake? With a cam in there, I'd look for 20-30 rwhp from those three combined. I think you should be able to get into the upper 300's at least cam only.

I cam, headers, pullies, TB, and ls6 intake should get you into the 400 range with tunning.

Dude!! You're an animal!! I don't think they make tires sticky enough to let you hook that thing up, but you're still a hero in my book.

Do you have any pictures of this monster? Boy, I bet the rice guys are more than a little surprised when you clear the pipes on them!! I'd crap myself if I heard a huge *** V8 roaring out of a small car like that.

A freakin huge cam w/ tuning will net 80-90 rwhp. G5X3 with HP Tuners and free mods will put you at 400rwhp. Do you want driveability? Is the rx7 the daily driver? If it is, stay away from sick, nasty, large bump sticks like the G5X3 and get 400rwhp with headers, intermediate cam (231/237), and an LS6 intake.
