Default '02 SS Question

My friend has a 2002 Camaro SS. Hes tellin me that the last like 1000 or so SS's came with the LS6 block also, not just the LS6 intake. He told me that stock he ran a 12.9 and he dynoed at like someting 350+ hp. He did special order it in 2002 with ZR1 rims and fully loaded, but I didn't think that you had the option of a LS6 Block. I havn't heard anything about this , and I'm raising the bs flag on him. Anyone have an info on it?

You should lower the flag, there are. Run a search and get some numbers of production. Your friend is a lucky guy.

There is no "option" for it. It was just kinda a random thing. There really isn't anything "lucky" or "special" about it. It's just the block, nothing else, and won't give him any extra performance.

I also think it was 15% or 20% of f-bodies that got the LS6 block in 02. 10% or 15% got it in 01.

I would raise the BS flag on 350 RWHP ifit's RWHP he's talking about.

What they said. ^^
Big deal, LS6 block, won't do **** for him. If he claims 350+ hp stock he must be quoting flywheel hp, which is very reasonable.

From Search (where is JRP? J/K)

According to article in High Performance Pontiac on page 16 that arrived yesterday 10% of 2001 F cars and 25% of 2002 F cars have LS6 block. A casting # 12561168 denotes LS6 block. The number is located on driver's side, at back of left hand deck above transmission flange. Pretty hard to get a look at the number the way our engines are set back.

Also, they did not have any greater HP.

What everyone else said. 25% of '02 F-body's came with the LS6 block. No perforomance gain with it though. He could have run he 12.9 stock, if he knows how to drive, but 350 RWHP stock is BS, he has a SS, not a Z06.

Hey I made no claims as to HP gains, I just informed the lad that his buddy was correct to say he had an LS6. Then of course I did my duty and turned him on to SEARCH. I meant he was lucky ie. in the lottery draw for the different block. I'm happy with my LS1 block just fine, think no worse of it because it's five numbers lower.

Yep! I think I was lucky to get one. 13.009 at 112mph. May have had a slight tail wind. But I was able to back it up with a 12.995 at 110. I was very happy with mine when it was stock

He won't know for sure until he checks casting numbers. He may have lucked out. JRP, how the hell did you pull that off? Buy one from the salvage yard or direct from the dealer? Oh and by the way, thanks for the build help. My wife is actually on board with it. I will make sure I swing by when I get back to CA so you can see it. I know of two good body/paint shops (LA area) that I would trust with my grand color idea, do you know of any down there? My next base will be Pendleton or 29 Palms (I hope) again.

Right. And, just to clarify in case soemone reading is confused.....LS6 block does NOT mean LS6. The LS6 and its extra power is in the heads and larger cam. The fun part is that once you do a heads/cam swap on an LS1 (and use LS6 heads) you may as well have a well modded LS6 for most practical purposes

JRP, he didn't respond to that idea yet though, to find if his friends was. As for yours, it doesn't tell me where you GOT the damn thing, I just gotta know! So do you know of any places with a good spray booth?
