99z28 Project (10 grand to spend)
Hey everyone... I have a 99 z28. It is complete but stock. Ill be doing all the work on it myself except machining if needed and tunning. So now to the project. I want a streetable car that is very reliable. Very strong and not going to break on me. I would like to achieve atleast 11's N/A if possible. and maybe high 10's with a nice shot of n2o or some sort of FI. Cost is pretty limited for my goals id like to meet. So please give me a couple ideas to ponder about and maybe a few suggestions I can look into. Thanks in advance and let me know what I can do.
Thanks,
John Melamed

^^^what he said.
That 408 set-up would be hot. <--my vote
You have to do the basics:
Full Suspenions 1000 used if you are doing it yourself?
Rear-end 2000
Tires- Depends on what you want
Clutch- 350
Then choose your motor and the rest.

this is just my .02
Afr heads, cam, LT's, ORY, Corsa cat back or gmmg, sfc's, lca's, sticky's, racing clutch, 12bolt rear, ls6 intake, ported tb, TUNING, and a short throw shifter! All that should easily drop you to the 11's.
12's if you skip on the Afr's

Im gonna say that since your stock its gonna be closer to $15k after everything is said and done. the stroker motor with heads/cam, intake, headers, exhaust, fuel, boltons, is gonna be around $8-9k. then plan on close to $3k+ for the drivetrain, and $1k-2k for suspension, especially if you get lightweight kmember and roll cage and stuff. since your stock a lot of the first mods ppl do like subframes and shifter and stuff like that will have to be done.
you could go with a nice heads/cam package that could be swapped later in a stroker, that with all the boltons and tuning would be 420+rwhp, then throw a 150 shot on there and be close to 600rwhp for around $4-5k. then the suspension and drivetrain will finish off the $10k. im sure that can get you in the 11s with the right suspension. then later on drop the stoker motor in, since you will have all the components already to support the stroker it will only be like an extra 4k, could also throw a bigger cam in and would be 500+rwhp n/a and then hit the juice You got to remember its the little things that you dont think about that add up to a lot

it doesn't take ten grand to get into the 11s.....i'm almost there and i haen't spent nine grand yet including the price of the car! start with the suspension, especially sub frame connecters to keep the chassis stiff....let the car breath(cold/ram air intake, headers, cutout or cat back or both)...drag radials....4.10 gears....to you have the money now are is it a long term project? you could always start with this stuff and then do the trans and rear as they break, and then go to the bigger cubes as you want to run more nitrous or into the tens n/a.....honestly, there are many ways to go about it, and you need to decide if you want to go nuts at first or build it as you go....look in the drag racing section and there are a lot of people running 11s without going to a power adder or bigger cubes.....

i was thinking something along the lines of a forged 348 and then strapping on a nice heads/cam package and then strengthen up the suspension and the rear and tranny... But what is a forged 348 with a nice heads/cam package and a rear end a clutch and suspension going to run me? any ideas? Any other suggestions... keep me posted.
I do have 8 g's in hand and should have 10 by the time winter rolls around... so ya... keep me updated! Thanks.

I agree on the 408. The motor alone can put you in the 11s, and big cubes is the most reliable way to do it. A big shot of N20 on top could drop you into the 10s. So basically almost everyone is in agreement here.
The forged 348, in long block trim, won't save you all that much over the stroker, and will be less streetable than the stroker. However, you could go with a forged shortblock, and keep the cost down, but by the time you add the heads/cam and blow it, you're money is spent.
Think cubes on spray man...displacement is cool.
