Grease on light bulb?
I just took out my driver side DRL bulb and the bulb and socket are coated in some crap that looks like mud. A friend of mine said that was grease and was supposed to be there, is that true??

The grease is there to keep the water out......<so I was told> I had the passenger front turn signal light socket burn out on me, the guys at the dealership told me it was pretty common...any lithium grease will work. I had replaced the bulb about a week prior to the socket <didn't know about the grease at the time> only to find out that the socket fried out when water got inside and arced from one terminal to the other. When I replaced the plastic assembly it was 80% melted <I was lucky it didn't start a fire>! Hope this helps!

Dielectric grease is AWESOME. Always keep a can of that and some electrical parts cleaner. When a bulb goes out, pull the bulb, clean the socket with the cleaner. Then let it dry, and put a tiny bead of that grease in the socket. Plug in the bulb, and it's good to go!
