pro 5.0 shifter Q's
alright, u'm going to install my pro 5.0 shifter in a day or 2, and was wondering what everyone though of the shift stick vs stock? i know LSS is the best stick out there, but which between those 2 is better? also, what purpose do those 2 bolts in front and behind the shifter actually do? i've read that i can remove them, but what are they for, and what is your opinion on them? thanks~

Allegedly they are redundant since the T-56 has internal stops and several people had them come loose and cause problems. Consequently, many people recommend just removing them that way they can never get in the way. Personally I prefer the added security of knowing i wont be able to break the internal stops due to those being there, so I followed the adjustment instructions and then red loctited the **** out of them. I am confident I will not have a problem with them coming loose. By the way, the problem they would have is that they would come loose and then the bolts would vibrate in and then when shifting it would not go all the way into gear and damage the gear and synchro assemblies.

The Pro 5.0 shifter was my first mod. I love it. I had the long stick that came on it for over 6 years and recently got the Angled Stick from Speed Inc and I wish I would have done that a long time ago. I would say get the short stick.

I'm still using the bump-stops on my 5.0 shifter. It's been flawless for 4 years now... As for the short-stick, I just sawed about 1 1/2" of the Pro 5.0 stick...there's plenty of thread on there.

i also ended up trimming the pro 5.0 angled stick down to short stick dimensions. it works very well. i'm sure the lss and others short angled sticks are great, but you dont really need it. the 5.0 stick works perfectly once trimmed down.
i also kept the stops, just about 7000 miles on it and they havent given me any problems. loctite is your friend.

Don't waste your money, the Pro 5.0 Stick comes with alot of extra thread, just cut the top off of it. I didnt lock tite my bump stops so it's pop outa 3rd some times if i don't put it in firm.

i believe the shifter was designed for mustangs and the reason for the stops was because their tranny's didnt have the internal stops. it is a popular shifter and it either fit our transmissions from the get go or was modified to fit but somebody correct me if im wrong.
