Default Modding LS1 Camaros, T/A's and Vettes

I'm curious to know how you guys manage to mod these cars ?!?!?!? It's so damn expensive to do cam and heads swaps !! Not to mention exhaust and after all that, you gotta tune these cars !!!

HOLY S**T !!!

I'll give you guys alot of props !! It's not easy or cheap to do what you guys are doing... just wish I could do it a little faster than I have been !

you'll figure out to purchase used products when you can to mod faster....theres many honest people on these boards that will stop at nothing to help out fellow LSX owners

...so keep an eye on the "for sale" section, its will save a ton of money

your definition of "expensive" will definitely change. i just purchased a h/c setup for 1900 bucks...and if u had told me when i got the car 2 years ago that id be putting that much money into just the top part of the engine, i wouldve laughed in your face. now, 1900 sounds really nice. it could be worse, ati prochargers run like 5 grand i think

You guys (and gals) all put up a pretty good argument. But never the less.... $1900 on a set of heads !!! Some how I can't see myself "charging" that much !! With it costing as much as it does to mod these things, the car will be 10 years old by the time I'm done !! And by that time ... it's time to start over again !!! You can't just "bolt-on and go". The puter has alot to do with it.... if you don't re-calibrate it... you won't the moddings full potential. And to tune the car is $200 - $300 bucks !! INSANE !!!!

I' don't know.... I still see it as very expensive.....

you only need tuning when you do major stuff...ie. big cam or supercharger/turbo

you'll need tuning for anything over a tr224 to get it to run decently...there has been people run a f-13 which is like a 230-232 without a tune...but that is when it starts to a little ugly...ie. stalling at red lights...hunting for idle etc...

think about it this way...you are getting 50-100hp by installing a cam (depending on how big you go)

HAHA...yeah you might as well get used to the fact that things are expensive...but you will make prolly 375rwhp with a tr224 and bolt-ons...it is a VERY popular entry cam...very proven...do a search and find more about it...it is everywhere on this board

If you've looked in the for sale section recently there have been several TR224 cams with low miles on them go for in between 200-300 bucks which will leave room to buy some comp 918 springs and hardened pushrods.....if you do the cam yourself, your lookin at under 1000 bucks for cam/springs/pushrods/tuning (depending on where you go)

I personally like the TR224 because of its driving manners, idle quality and sound....I put one in a car a few months back that made right at 370rwhp with cam/springs/headers

LS1sounds.com is a great place to find a cam sound/idle that you like, theres tons of cars on there with a variety of bumpsticks and will help to make a decision for you when the time comes

So did you do the install yourself or did you take it some where ?? I've been looking for headers but I'll also need the catted y-pipe... now we're talking EXPENSIVE as well !!

it adds up FAST. and it really adds up when you start replacing parts you already replaced(bbk 80mm to FAST 90). just fixing regular things never mind performance gets expensive.

There are plenty of things you can do to our cars that won't break the bank. Lid, exhaust, suspension (some of which you have done). IMO if you planned on going right into somewhat big mods like H/C/Forced induction you should've researched prices before you bought one. Just my .02.
