Took my 96 T/A with RAm air through car wash... Acting Odd... Help?
Ok, I took my 96 t/a with a predator hood, functional ram air through Mikes Car Wash.
When I pulled car out the engine started to steam (as if water hit it). So I sat for a few seconds was idoling kinda rough so I gave little gas and it seemed to stop. So as I drove it a bit and at lights it would idle funny.
The transmission wouldn't shift as quick say it usually shifts at like 2000 was shifting at liek 3000+ and then it would jump.
But after 5-10 minutes of driving it seemed to stop and car was fine.
All liquids are new, all hoses and belts are new.
Was wondering if this was caused by water hitting the engine?
If anyone can help me please let me know. Thanks.
Matt

Air filter was barly damp but was damp. so I don't think that is it.
It sounds like the Optispark is 1 problem.
One of the people at the local meetup got under the car and he said where the Shifter meeted the tranny the braket there is half broken off, said that could be causing it.

The Opti-spark itself for a 96 is around $300 (400 for 93-95) cuz the 96 & 97 use a vented one. Sounds like that is your problem my brother just have that problem and had his replaced. Good Luck.

yeh LT1's suck..the opti was a major design flaw by GM..that they later fixed, but why your under there get the vented one so you don't half to worry about it again. On my 94 Z28 i use to have I went through 2 opti's in 5 years..just out of stupidity of washing under the hood then getting in the car turning the key and saying omg i am stupid

The opti is around $300 i agree get the vented style. I belive the vented style started in 95. Also while your at it replaced your water pump!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The water pump goin bad in these cars is one of the main causes of the opti going bad. Because it is cam driven there is a little spline in the back of the pump. Around the spline is a little gasket. What happens alot is the gasket goes bad and you leak water on the opti. Bye bye opti most of the time. Just do both at once and save yourself the trouble. When i put the LT1 in my car i got a new water pump and opti.

Dude, don't jump to the conclusion that you have a bad opti and start spending money. If your driveability returns to normal, count it as a bullet dodged and just be extremely wary of ever getting water on your motor again - including things like charging into big puddles. I had a 94 Formula and had the joy of having the opti replaced twice. Odds are you'll have to do it someday, but hopefully not this time. Shoulda waited and got an LS1 ...

Well if it woulda continued acting bad woulda took it to the shop see what they said.
GOOD NEWS: Today it is acting perfectly fine. So I guess I did "dodge the bullet" no more auto car washes for me.

Same thing happened to my 96'. After I went through a car wash my car ran pretty bad, but once it dryed up it was back to normal. My advice, don't buy a new opti just because of that. If it's running fine now, save your money. One other thing, if you have a Lt1 wash it yourself.
