Default Coated vs. Uncoated Y-Pipe

I understand the benefits of having ceramic coating on headers. Not only does it help prevent rust but it also insulates better thus more velocity of gases which is good for flow. Does the coating help with flow once you get to the y-pipe or is it only beneficial for the rust-prevention then? If you guys were choosing between a coated Jet-Hot ORY for ~$245 shipped or a TSP ORY that is uncoated for $145 which would you go with? My car gets stored in winters but does get driven in the rain. Will the uncoated just start looking bad sooner or is there a chance of it actually rusting through? Also do the Jet Hot ORY have the same warranty on them as the headers do? Thanks.

Not sure about the warranty, but dont waste the money for uncoated. It will start rusting withing a few weeks. I made that mistake. Quite frankly, it looks like crap and I hate it. Dont make the same mistake I did. Just my .02. Do it right the first time. Trust me when I say you will wish you got coated.

Rusty headers make more horsepower than rustY manifolds

I'm just trying to decide if that $100 could be better spent elsewhere.

amen, brother!

oh, and isnt he just asking about the coating for Ypipes? i think that is an incredible waste of money. it is still gonna get crap on it and look bad. and who is seriously gonna get down there and clean their Ypipe? that $100 extra can be spent better elsewhere.

Yeah, for the y-pipe I really don't care how it will look. Even with the coating it's gonna look like crap eventually anyway, right? I just don't want it to rust so badly that it gets holes. My thought is "who is gonna even see the y-pipe"? Headers have the benefit from of it of the extra thermal properties but I don't think that would be helpful in the y.

what other mods do you have?
I've got a TSP lid and SSRA right now. In a big group this spring I want to do Jet Hot LT's with ORY, LS6 Intake, !Air, !Egr, Sub-Frames, shock tower brace(wasn't in the plan, but $60 is hard to pass up) and maybe ported throttle body. The saved $100 here will just make it easier to pay for the other stuff. I'd like to get a tune after all this to get the most, it'll be at least next year before I do a cam IF I do one, but $450 is a lot.

I'm installing them all myself, or with the help of friends who don't cost anything. I called TSP and they said it's good to buy the high-temp engine paint and then paint the ORY before you install it. The guy I talked to has true duals and painted everything with the paint and after 1.5 years he still doesn't have any rust.
