Default normal driving, SES light clicked on.

while driving home normally yesterday, i threw an SES. i wasn't racing or beating on it, just cruising.

anyone else get a random SES while doing nothing out of the ordinary?

car is stock except for a Magnaflow cat-back that's been on there forever.

my friend Karim has a scanner, so i'm getting the code pulled today. im not too worried or anything, just curious if this happens frequently with LS1s. or if there's anything i should be looking out for?

sorry for such the n00b question.

more than likely its a cat or o2 issue, but there is the chance of it being something more serious. just get it scanned and go from there.

You can usually reset the computer, either by your friends scanner ot just unplug the battery cable for about a minute or two.
See if it comes back on. The SES light can be a number of things.
let us know what the code is, once you get it.

Mine came on like you said and would also go off. One day I had the lid off cleaning the K&N and looked at the MAF, and it had some crap blocking part of the screen. Which probably threw the light. Hence why I haven't removed the screen. I have not seen the SES light on again.

I threw a random one once, I forget the code but I think it was for a bad air pump. I just reset the computer to see if it would come back, it hasn't in 6 months so I think I'm okay.

If its just a steady ses light its nothing to worry about b/c its just something with emissions.

i got an ses light yesterday after a 300 mile trip. Went to autozone and though an o2 sensor code. have an idea what would cause this or what it will cost to fix. if it helps, had my headers installed about 4 months ago

Could also be your gas cap, did you get gas just prior to the light coming on ?

Mine came on about a month ago. I scanned it and gave me a knock sensor code. After I reset it, it came back on. I kept driving it for about two weeks, and it turned off by itself. I rescanned it, and its not showing anything . It hasnt come on in about 2 weeks..

ok Update:

the light clicked off last night on the way to see my friend with the scanner. i was happy, but i had him pull the code regardless.

the car had only one DTC code, it was P0157
the scanner said it was: 02 sensor--low voltage--bank 2 sensor

he deleted the code and all is well. i'm just glad it wasn't something else.

thanks for all the replies too guys.
