Default small airvent...useless?

alright, so i wanted to mount my harlan shift light in the small airvent on the driver side that points towards the window. and there was a small hose that was behind it. i started to cut it away, when it just randomly came out. the shiftlight fits perfect and you cant see it until it lights up....but what about that hose.... where is it coming from? is it hurting anything not being there?

I'm pretty sure it's a heater vent. It blows warm air at the inside of the driver's window to defrost it when the heater is turned on.

yep, keeps the windows clear. Just plug up the hose so you don't make the shift light to toasty

I installed my harlan light in the hole that the defroster tube was removed from. Use foam like I did to plug the hole then cap it off with duct tape to prevent the air from blowing the foam out. Works like a champ, but sometimes takes alot longer for the driver side window to defrost in the cold months b/c no air blows on it. I just make the heater blow from the front vents and point the one closest to the driver window right at it and takes care of that problem.
