Which lid for '02 Ram Air?
I have had my '02 Ram Air for a week now and it is ready for tweaking. From what I get here, the lid needs to be the first thing. MTI seems to have a good deal for $150 incl K&N stuff. Is that the best lid and deal? BTW, I am not the greatest mechanic, so I hope this is an easy mod.

its an easy mod. should take about 5 minutes... make that 6 minutes if you are completely mechanically inept. Most people here like the SLP lid because it fits really well. As far as filters.....don't spend too much on one, a regular Fram paper filter should be more than enough. The K&N doesn't fit too well and requires the use of a foam-type gasket that you have to apply to the air box.

I had no problem fitting my K&N into the SLP Lid, plus the one good thing about the filter (although, as he said the performance increase isnt huge, especially once you start modding everything else) is that it can be easily cleaned and used forever. Also think about either wasting money on the bellows or using the free mod for smoothing the airflow into the manifold...

It would be better deal to buy one used, but either way a good first mod. The only problem I had putting mine on, it took me awhile to get the rubber grommet holding the sensor in out of the stock airbox. I was afraid of breaking it and so didn't want to use much force. Once I got pissed off and just pulled it comes out easily though.

When you say "K&N stuff" does that mean an air filter or a breather cap for the AIR tube? I have an SLP lid with a K&N air filter and have no complaints. The SLP lid was $99 and the best thing about it is that it has a provision for the AIR tube on the '00+ cars so that you don't have to run a breather on the end of the AIR tube. You just plug it right into the lid. The quality looks great. The K&N filter needs a gasket but with the SLP lid it seems to fit fine. Like said above the hardest park of the whole thing is getting that little sensor out of the stock lid and into the aftermarket one. You might need a hair dryer to heat up the grommet to pop it out. Other then that it's an easy few HP for way under $200 total.

i bought the K&N FIPK used for $175 and it came with everything, and its trimmed in carbon fiber. i like how it stands out when you open the hood compared to everyone else...plus it flows just as well as any lid if not better.

I went with the SLP lid and the fit was perfect.I went with the K&N filter.I figured it is my money so...... I believe that GM High Tech Magazine did a test on all of the major name brand lids and if memory serves me correct the
SLP lid took top honors.I would say they are all pretty good (definitely better than stock)so just shop around and good luck!

clear lids look cool and all, but they like to crack. my MTI lid cracked and was replaced (under warranty), i had to do some modifications to make it fit much nicer and to relive stress off the engine side mounting tabs (Where the first one broke).
just food for thought the MTI clear lid seems to be more prone to cracking.

I have the SLP lid and it rub on the bottom of the Hood. Other people have had problems with this one. I had an LS1 Motorsports lid and it fit perfect and I had no problems with it on my Formula.
