Default Clutch

I've heard from a few people that resting your foot on the clutch is like HORRIBLY bad! Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

it's bad, don't do it. That's what the dead pedal is for.

by doing this you disangage the clutch causing it to rub against the fly wheel meaning that you'll be buing a new clutch pretty often.

actually it puts wear on the throw out bearing more than anything. You don't really dis-engage the clutch when you are just resting your foot on it. Well I guess you could have a really heavy foot

It also puts extra stress on the thrust bearing if do it often enough.

I would not recommend doing that. Unless you like to buy clutches.

Resting your foot on the pedal will do no harm IMHO.
Putting pressure on it to cause the clutch to slip will lead to heat and wear, then a new clutch. The bearings are designed to take anything you can give em.

Fully MHO, YMMV

02 SS Camaro /w Mcleod clutch and no pedal return spring since forever.

Thumbs down

don't your calves hurt like a bitch considering they are half way up in the air resting slightly on the pedal?, if you are puttin even a bit of pressure on the clutch pedal(ie to take the weight OFF your calf).....you are unnecessarily wearing your clutch system

You would where your throw out bearing and wear out your fingers on the pressure plate

yea if ur resting ur foot on it that will be the throw out bearing rubbing on the fingers, but i dont see how that will be a comfortable position

lol, sorry buddy, if it makes you feel any better, i learned how to drive manual when I worked at a ford delaership doin PDIs/Delivery to the Ford Plant for Exec cars, that was a great job, and no GM casualties! But yeah the guy who taught me said to engage/release the clutch as quickly/smoothly as possibly
