Stupid question about cleaning engine.
I ran through a huge puddle and muddy water splashed up into the engine compartment and now it looks really nasty. Anyway is it safe to spray water into the engine compartment and onto the engine?? I know its a big nono on the LT1 but thats because of the Optispark. Is it ok on the LS1 and what should i cover if anything.

try spraying gunk foamy engine cleaner (found at autozone) and follow directions. The LS1 is virtually waterproof, just stay away from soaking the PCM (by the windhield on the passenger side), otherwise, go to town. If you want your engine to look great finish it off with CD2 Detailer spray (found at autozone) and follow directions. That one you just spray it on, let it sit and wipe off the excess 10 minutes later. Trust me, water will not hurt your engine, UNLESS THE ENGINE IS HOT. Do all of this after the engine is cool. Run a search for Gunk degreaser or CD2 detailer, myself and a couple other posted on this just about 2 weeks ago. You will love it.

You might want to do a search about corroded knock sensors due to water under the intake manifold. Did my first engine bay cleaning last weekend and now I have a knock sensor code. Don't know how common the problem is, but there are a lot of posts about knock sensors & water issues.
I had my code cleared, but it came back on - I'm going to pull my intake this weekend.
Also look for the GM TSB regarding knock sensors. A search should find a thread that has the link to the TSB.
Just my $0.02.
