What compression ratio will normal 93 octane be good for up to? At what point will you start having preignition, including hot days.

I could be wrong, but I believe 12:1 is about as high as most guys are willing to go, and many won't even go that high.

typical compression ratio for pump gas (93) is about 11:1-11.5:1...i doubt anyone is running 12:1 on pump gas...but it's possible if you take out enough timing...it's just not profitable unless you are running at least 100octane

My setup now is a lid and ported TB
But I've got bolt-ons to put on this summer. I'm also thinking of getting in on the TEA 5.3 sale right now. I'm giong to put them with probably either a Stealth II or X3. I know, very different cams. I've got a while to decide the approach. But with the X3 I was recommended to bump the compression to 11.2, and flycut the pistons to make it work. That would be a nice setup. I'm not sure though, how high do most people shift with an X3?

I just got the X3, it's gonna be sitting around for awhile till I get the supporting parts for it. I've got an auto though so I don't know about the shifting. I know that the cam makes its power starting at 3800.

i'd try to stay away from flycutting...there are plenty of cams that will make more power than the x3 and do it without flycutting...that's just added expense and a pita to do btw

Yeah I got that cam because it was a good match with the 3800 stall that I have. Gonna install it with the stock heads for now.

umm it's rough...sounds wonderful...if i'm in town i'll be glad to let you hear it...i'm pretty sure the 231/237 cam is one of the "lopier" cams out there...if someone would tell me how to make a soundclip i'd post it...i'm sure it wouldn't give you a true sound but it would let you know the lope...
