Default Chevy Dealer won't rotate tires

The other day when I saw my mothers 2001 C5 I noticed her drivers side front tire is worn a bit on the side. I told her to take it to get the front tires rotated. She takes it to her chevy dealer and they said they can't do it and such. They put on a new tire and would let her keep the other tire as a spare.

She has not left yet to pick up her car, should I do something? The tire is still okay it just needs to be rotated.

I would assume that a typical tire rotation includes swapping the LF with the RR and the RF with the LR. C5 Corvettes have 18's in the rear and 17's in the front stock. That is why the tires cannot be rotated. Keep in mind that the dealer doesn't profit enough on a single tire to warrant pissing the customer off just to replace it.

you can't rotate the tires on a corvette due the the 17/18 wheel combo. Not to mention they are wider in the back than in the front

I would've wanted both fronts replaced.

I mean swapping the LF and RF.
The corvette tires can be swapped but only from side to side if this is right.

Are the tires directional? Cant swap side to side if the tires are directional.

The tread has a pattern. Now if you flip the tire over does it have the same EXACT pattern. If it doesn't then the tire is directional.

There's a rotation arrow on the outside sidewall - thread pattern is made to go in one direction.

Her car is still at her chevy dealer so I can't check. Her front tires are 245/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS EMT

directional tires are mainly for better traction on wet roads.

Who cares if they are directional or that they can't be rotated traditionally. It's not diffucult to unmount both front tires and swap sides and remount. This is a lot cheaper than just replacing the tires. Your dealer just wanted money.

If the tires are still pretty decent and would actually benefit from rotation, any Tire Kingdom will unmount the tires off of the front rims and swap them with each other. Then, you'll have to pay for mounting. You'll also have to pay again for re-balancing each tire. This usually wouldn't be worth it. However, those size tires are pretty expensive, and as I said, if those tires are still pretty decent, maybe you should just rotate them this way.

The dealer wouldn't do it? It's your money. You're not obligated to buy a new tire. You say, "Fine, thank you for your time. I don't want a new tire. I'll go somewhere else to do the rotation. Goodbye gentlemen."

Dude, I hate ******* lazy dealer asswipes.

They don't make much, true. Actually, from the viewpoint of the typical dealer tech douchebag, he will make the same no matter what... He has his hourly wage. What the dealer will make by selling a new tire instead of rotating them is time, time to kick back and relax.

It takes longer to mount and balance one new tire than to mount and balance two old tires for the front swap rotation.

I've had bad experiences with dealers, sorry.

Most people at the dealership aren't simply hourly. They are either hourly or flat rate with commission on services they sell you. The more they talk you into buying stuff, the more money in their bank account.

You said the tire was worn a bit on the side...are you sure the they didnt replace it because it ws too worn? A dealer generally isnt going to rotate a bad tire, they dont want to get sued.
