How many miles or kilometers do some of you guys have on your motors? Especially on your trucks? Is 215 000km to many?

i think thats roughly, very roughly 120,000 miles, which is getting common for some of the earliar ls1's (97-98) patman was talking about a ls1 vette w/350k on it, there is a 99 z28 with 200k on it, my car has 128k on it, although i'm having some high running temp problems right now, im almost positive that it is a blockage in the radiator, so its no big deal, just remember that routine maintenance is the key, if maintained properly and driven with respect, theres no telling how long these engines will last

Well maintained and cared for they should be able to last a long time. Many board members have over 100k miles on the clock and are still running strong. Modding a car with that many miles should be done very carefully though.

Compression/leak down tests can tell you a lot.

man all cars will last soon if you don't treat them well. But ls1 one of the best engine ever it should go for really long time! I'd rather buying an american engine instead a ricers

My brother has a 98 TA that he bought with 170K miles on it for $4500.

The car ran great and ran even better when we changed the fuel pump!

The car was all stock,A4,regularly maintained by a nurse who drove all over the central Texas area for her job...

The car kicked butt until someone wrecked into it...Still runs great but has body damage... (they had NO insurance,and my brother only had liability)

So,honestly I don't fear a car with high miles...Just drive it and you can tell automatically if the car is in great shape,maintained well and not beat to death..

Sometimes (like my brothers TA) the milage can help you in getting a good deal when number crunching..

You can't automatically tell for sure that it doesn't have any problems and will not have any in the near future. You can tell a lot driving it, but not "it drove great so it won't thave any problems".

No you can't tell "For sure" that a car doesn't have ANY problems by driving it.

My statement wasn't meant to be taken so literally.Sorry if it sounded that way or you took it that way.

Obviously you can't tell if a Tstat is going to give out the following week or a air conditioning compressor is going to sieze in a month or two.

But I still think that just by driving a car you can get a great idea of how the car was taken care of and maintained.Unless your ignorant as to how a car should drive or unfamiliar with these cars in particular...

In those cases,find someone who knows these cars better..

My B4C has 108,000 on it. I just had the tranny rebuilt and upgraded. A compression test at the same time came back as the engines fine. In fact Im going with a supercharger in the next few weeks. Everything tested great! So a high mileage car means nothing if it was well maintained. Id take a well maintained 100,000 mile car over a beat 50,000 mile one anyday!
