Can you tell a real WS6 by VIN???
I just bought a WS6 and had the VIN run by 3 pontiac dealerships - they all said it wasn't a WS6 after they ran the last 8 digits. I just read again on ls1tech.com that you can't tell by the VIN number. These dealerships looked at the build sheet and just didn't see 'ws6'. Is this perhaps the car could have been shipped to SLP after the VIN was posted on it? Am I missing something? Help greatly appreciated!

thanks for the info! I don't have the RPO codes because the car was completely repainted :/ It appears to have the correct hood, wheels and I think even shocks. Is there anything else I can check by? And for ASC - did they get assigned the VINs after? I ask because I was hoping to see if it was a WS6 if it would explicitly say by looking up the build sheet by VIN.

you cant tell the RPO codes by the vin, but a dealer can input a VIN and pull out the RPO codes for it, you should ask a dealer for a printout of the RPO codes, look for yourself weather its a WS6 or not

Ah bummer - I called 3 pontiac dealerships today and they asked for the last 8 digits of the vin and said ws6 didn't come up. Does that mean pretty much for a fact it isn't a real ws6?

Check the Pontiac Historical society in MI... Do a "google" on them and for like 60 or so bucks they will send you every bit of documentation ever printed on your pontiac... even the window sticker... list or RPO codes and even the name and address of the first owner of the car... I got mine years ago... and it has lots of info about the WS6 option.
You can even contact ASC and they can tell you date they made it into a WS6

Same thing happened to me, I have a 99 WS6 Replica.
There is no way to tell from the Vin, but the dealerships can by matching it to the RPO codes.
I knew because my RPOs were on the driver side inside door and no WS6 RPO was present.
Not to mention I have a WS6 sticker instead of an emblem on the right rear.
But, the car is clean and beautiful so I'll keep it.
Where did you get yours???
Good luck with yours,
Howard
