Default Newbie question... Is only 98+ 5.7 an LS1??

Obivously I dont know much here..lol

What I do know is the 5.7 F body engine is all aluminum and is the LS1 as I know it. However what about the 5.3 and 6.0?? Are these also LS enignes?? I understand they both have a cast iron block. Ive also seen people puttin 6.0 heads on the 5.7 so I know they must be closely related. Is it deck height thats adds displacement or is it bore size ??
Also the 05 GTO has the 6.0 LS2 right ?? Is this also all aluminum ??

Thanks guys !!

This is what I know, some I'm not 100% sure on, I'm pretty new around here, still learning.

LS1 = Gen III 5.7 - iron block, used in 98+ F-bodies
LS2 = Gen IV 5.7 - aluminum block, used in 05GTO
LS6= Gen III 6.0 - iron block - 98-04(?) vettes
LS7 = Gen IV 6.0 - aluminum block - 05+ vettes(?)

LS4 = Gen IV 5.3 - aluminum block, used in new Grand Prix GXP and Monte and Impala SS (FWD applications)

Other 5.3 engine has iron block, used in trucks/suvs. I think it's a Gen III.

I could be wrong on some of this, but it will give you a general idea. I'm sure others will add on or correct anything that I messed up.

no offence, but if you are unsure of something its better not to post up because thats how misinformation gets spread around

gen III

LR4 4.8 : iron block
LM7 5.3: iron block until 03, then aluminum
LS1 5.7: aluminum block
LS6 5.7: aluminum block
LQ4/LQ9 6.0: iron block

gen IV

LS2 6.0: aluminum block
LS7 7.0: aluminum block

oohsoobad2 - read the FAQ in my sig.
