Default Burn out?

Well... over at Camaroz28 I used to get into lots of heated debates about how LT1 has better torque... and people would often hit me back with, why do ls1's have so much trouble getting outa the box and hooking up?

Quite frankly, with stock suspension I cant get the tires to spin, on my ls1...

my lt1, i could do a mean burn out... i tried on my ls1 today... and couldnt get much more out of it then a loud squeel...

Well i used to have a 1994 firebird formula lt1 A4 and that thing had TORQUE, i recently sold that because the transmission was going out.I bought my 2000 z28 ls1 and it has torque but doesnt seem to have the same take off.

Is the ls1 a m6 or a4 and what was the lt1 ?

both are A4's with 3.23's i believe

the ls1 has a bit later shift points/redlines

LT1 Frist used to goto 40, LS1 goes to 45...
LT1 Second used to go to 80, LS1 goes to 90...

is it 3.23's?

The LT1's torque curve starts down low around 2500 rpms and the LS1's torque curve starts around 4400 rpms.

There is a lot of misconceptions about the LT1 having better tq. If you look at the dyno graphs you'll see that the LS1 equals or betters the LT1's tq over most of the curve. The LT1 does hit pk tq sooner but the LS1 is equal to it and just keeps on building to around 4800 where it starts to drop.

if u look at dyno sheets from comparable cars. LS1 vs LT1 you will see that the lt1 will have most of its torque by 2k wheres the ls1 has more of a liniar onset.

not that they are completely different. thats just how the LT1 is.

so why doesnt it have quite the tire spinning effect?

In german ASR is called Anti Schlupf Riegelung.
So it must be something like Anti Slip Regulation

I dont think anyone answered his question about gears. It appears you may have 2.73's (standard Z28) instead of the 3.23 option. You can check the codes on the end of the driver's door. I dont remember the specific codes, search will find them easy. If you have ASR off and nothing much is happening. I dont know what to tell you, only LS1 I've driven is mine (street tires). I dont try to do burnouts but on different types of pavement (slow first gear roll) I can dead hook or I can spin them easily with a 2/3 punch of the pedal. Concrete seems to hook, pavement is slick. Maybe try a different spot.

Reason ur camaro dose not do as a nasty burn out taking off is frankly the Ls1 camaros just have a better suspension then the LT1 dose..Or UnLess u do not have the ASR button in ur LS1 and cant turn it off..THEN UR SOL..other then that u should be happy if u dot. as far as the torque gose they both put out the same amout of torque.. only differ is the LT1 will max its torque out in the lower RPMS as to the LS1 will max it out in the upper RPMS.. Hope i did not repeat this did not feel like reading all the other post..

An ls1 has more torque and horsepower over the entire rpm range. The reason the lt1 feels more torquey is because it hits peak torque early. The ls1 keeps it going. This gives you the ILLUSION that the LT1 is making more torque.

IT's GU2 for 2.73's and GU5 for 3.23's.

Cool

My 98 will smoke nitto 450's from takeoff (no footbraking required) is still smoking them when it comes out of 2nd but will die like a dog when it hits 3rd.Just to much rpm drop. I am running 2:73 gears. Had the trans built with Raybestos clutches and vette solenoids. Look in the last issue of GM high Tech Magazine and the do a comparison of LT1 VS.LS1 output for us A4 people.
