NEWBIES: ASK ANY QUESTION ABOUT ANY THING HERE, no worries of searching first
Newbies rejoice! This thread is made for asking any question about anything, without fear of people making a fuss about using the search feature first.
Questions about what mod to do first, or what mod to do next, what oil to use or what lid to buy, what tires, what headers, what spark plugs, or just plain “what the hell?” can go here, and not a single intelligent person will say "This question has been asked to death! Use the search button!"
Why won't they bother you? Because if they are in a thread titled "NEWBIES: ASK ANY QUESTION ABOUT ANY THING HERE" and they don't expect to read newbie questions, they are the idiots.
Pay speacial attention to replies to your questions form longtime members and moderators with post counts somewhere north of 1,000, members like Patman, J-Rod, jrp, and many others.
Just a couple small guidelines to help you get the best response:
1. DO NOT POST IN ALL CAPS! That is beyond annoying and will undoubtedly receive a negative response. Threads started by newbies posting in all capitol letters are often times closed due to all the flames they receive.
2. Try your best to respect the English language and take your time when writing your question. Avoid posing questions like this newbie:
Yes, that's a real post and a good example of the type of question to be asked in this thread, but a bad example of how to pose the question.
Following those guidelines will help insure the best possible answer.
Currently, LS1Tech servers have to sift through almost 4,000,000 posts. We can't stop newbies from asking questions without searching, but we can do our best to limit the number of new posts while still answering questions.

-what is my stock compression
-will a transgo shift kit allow me to shift my a4 much like a manual tranny or one of those "manumatics" and not cause harm to my 4l60e
I'll think of some more

Head CC volume vs Compression Ratio:
The below CR numbers are with the stock GM 5.7L displacement LS1 graphite head gaskets installed.
Installing the thicker 2003 GM MLS head gaskets will decrease your compression ratio by approx 0.1 - 0.2
72.27cc = 9.1 CR
71.71cc = 9.2 CR
71.05cc = 9.3 CR
70.59cc = 9.4 CR
70.03cc = 9.5 CR
69.74cc = 9.6 CR
68.91cc = 9.7 CR
68.35cc = 9.8 CR

Some shift kits will, some won't. If you think you
need to shift it yourself, you must not have a
proper shiftpoint tune. Tuned right, the PCM
will be better at it and more consistent. Stock,
is another story.

Very clever Sharpe. You've created a board within a board. You should start 3 or 4 different threads- LS1-LS6 Internal Engine, External Engine, etc. You'll need a couple of mods. Can I be one?

I have got one, can the 4th gear lockup(OD) be changed to engage sooner.Mine seem to change between 45 to 50 mph.Sometimes it disengages by itself for no apparent reason.
