Question Just got a 2000 SS A4 wondering what to do

I just got a 2000 SS A4 and was wondering what to do. I would like to get it up to about 350 or 375 hp. My plan is to get a new lid, K&N air filter, exhaust, and a Jet chip programmer. Will these upgrades do it or should i do something else and is the programmer worth $500?

Get the lid, get the exhaust....., but whatever you do SKIP that programmer! Use the cash to get a 3500rpm stall range TC, add some drag radials to your list of mods, and you've got a mid 12 second car or better.

PS. Welcome to the site.

well, you've come to the right place to learn. lid, and K&N are 2 good cheap first mods. A cut-out is a very cheap exhaust solution that yeilds about the same power as a several hundred dollar cat-back system. A ram air set-up and a ported TB are also good cheap breathing mods. and when you're done with those you might want to get a 3000-3500 stall. Stall torque converters don't really give you more hp, but they are awesome mods for A4s. With all that you can reduce your quarter mile time by about 1 second. You can go for drag radials too.

If you want to go any farther than that things start to get alittle more tricky... like nitrous, or cams.

Well i can say you have done some homework and are on track. As for as a handheld tuner, i will not say shy away from them, because i love mine. If you live in an area with some quality tuning shops with tuners, or have the cash to invest and learn hp tuners then that is the better route to go. But you would be surprised how well the Vinci/Crane tuner works. Its alot more advanced than the others so you may want to look into it. I have a friend with a H/C SS with about 440rwhp and the tuner has filled his every need.(and its a pretty small cam..222/228 .551/.551 as compared to these monsters 23x/24x .6xx/.6xx).

BUT the most important thing you need is mentioned, a good stall. May not make horsepower but it damn sure brings what you have to life

I agree with the others. A stall should be near the top of your list, along with some good rubber. Cut-outs are much cheaper than a full exhaust set-up, and IMO way cooler. All that plus a lid & K&N filter, and you'll have a pretty mean setup, even though it won't be 375 hp.

Get the lid, skip the K&N. If it's only HP you are after, get a cam, long-tubes and a cutout (with the supporting stuff like tuning). If you are after going quick/fast on the cheap, get a 3000ish RPM convertor, a pulley, stickies and maybe a little shot of spray.

I am not sure about skipping the filter, whether it's a K&N, Holley Power shot or what....But your car has to breath plenty of air!! the power you are looking for you may not get 350, but it will wake that thing up...Check my sig for my mods and Dyno, that was in Jan, I still dont have an LS6 Intake, or a ported TB on yet, but I will soon.

Have fun with it, and do what we have done...enjoy it, and have fun!!

Hell no. Stay away from that junk. Like everyone above said.......get the lid, don't waste your money on a K&N. A Fram paper filter is more than sufficient. Invest in some Pacesetter LT headers and a nice exhaust. I recommend true duals . They are comparable in price to a lot of catbacks and they yield some great power. Not to mention that they sound absolutley awesome . Then get that stall converter. Don't be afraid to go big.....most people do after getting a smaller one. I ran a 12.98 with my mods and a 3400 Fuddle stall is next. That should put me in the low 12's. Enjoy that car and welcome to the sight. There is some great info here and some great people that can tell you anything you need to know.

I'm with you on the K&N filters. Normal paper filters are designed well enough these days that they flow fine for high HP engines like ours. Plus, despite what K&N and the other guys say, the paper filters out-filter them pretty well. The best look into this i've ever seen is this:

http://bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm

Long read, but well worth it. I've dropped a K&N into just about every car i've owned and after reading that, forget it. I'm sticking to paper filters.

true duel x-pipe exhast is one of the best you can do, insure you are ready for a loud exhaust...
