'collectors' car insurance?
I have had my 02 SS for a year now. My insurance is outragous. I was looking at Grundys. They have "collectors" insurance, no mileage restrictions, $100,000 or $500,000 libility. And you can choose your value on the car.
What are your thoughts??

Try Haggerty's classic car insurance. My insurance costs less than $300.00 per year, with 500,000 liability with full coverage, I'm old though, that's why I may pay less than you speedier youngsters! I'm 53 and enjoy driving my 98.

ok, i was paying $6,000 a year for the camaro and my 1984 Bronco II. i got it knocked down to $4500 or so. I'm 21 no tickets, and two stupid minor, no damage to my car, parking lot accidents almost 3 years ago.
I wanted to save a few bucks for now. I can afford it as it is, but the more i save on insurance, the more i have to play with.

Since your a male and 21 years old, there's the reason for the high insurance costs. It's no fault of your own, that's just how it works. I'm 31, and my truck and 'bird run me about $160 a month for full coverage. The older you get, the better your rates should get. That's as long as you stay out of trouble.
If the male species didn't enjoy going fast so much, we'd have better rates in our younger driving years

No mileage restrictions? That sounds pretty awesome. Someone mentioned Hagerty, they do have mileage restrictions, but shouldn't be that bad if you have a daily driver. In fact you need proof of a daily driver to get their coverage. The mileage works out to like 75 miles/week. I'd do some comparing though. If Grundy's is reasonable compared to Hagerty's I'd go with Grundy's simply because you wouldn't have to worry about how much you're driving. Just my 2cents.

For those of you who have a heavily modded car , you can get a "stated value" policy. You get your car appraised , then you and your insurance company agree on the value to insure the car. This is a good idea because most insurance companies will not take into account the value of the mods/accessories otherwise. You can get this type of policy through most insurance companies ,too.

i pay about 180 a month for my truck, camaro, and my wifes car, but i was thinking about getting some special insurance for the camaro too since i don't drive it that much. i think it's pointless to pay full time driving rates for a car that gets driven only about 3k a year. although i do want to keep full coverage for when i do have it out.

I did that Geico qoute thing. If i was on my own insurance i would be at 4900 per year.
I'm 18 with an alomost perfect record. No accidents. Two tickets. One stop sign, one "seatbelt" ticket.

The mileage amounts can be negotiated, tell them you attend some shows out of state and the 2500 miles isn't enough, some companies allow a once in a while drive to work (if your DD dies one morning)
My father had collectors insurance(Haggertys IIRC) on his XKE, it was stolen, and they paid exactly what the stated value was, no problems or trying to get out of paying or any of the other BS insurance companies try to pull sometimes, took about a week after they were contacted, so if you have a DD, collectors insurance can be an economic alternative to regular insurance

I have allstate and pay $200 a month for my truck, tahoe and Z28. I just put the z28 in suspension and have to call or leave a message when I want to take it out. It's only $1.50 a day. Kind of a PITA to have to call but I save like $100 a month

I write for Hagerty here in Georgia. Most of the time they have age and value requirements for vehicles under their "collector car" program. I believe if the car is 15-20 years old it must have a worth of $5,000 or more. If it's >20 years old it can be a little less in terms of value. Also...
COLLECTOR CAR POLICIES ARE LIMITED USE POLICIES.
Meaning: You can only drive your car on weekends to shows/events and you can NOT drive your car to work. They WILL underwrite at the time of loss, and if they find you driving your car to work, they'll deny coverage.
other than that they're a great company (Hagerty).
oh, I can only write policies in Georgia (I'm an insurance agent) so don't ask unless you're in Georgia.
edit: oh yea, and Stated Amount policies (unless you live out in the boondocks) are INSANELY expensive. Had one customer with a $25k stated amount policy paying $400/month on a '99 Suburban.
