Engine Ages, reliabilty between LT1/LS1
On Your Knowledge and Experiance, just for general knowledge and not under estimating any engine, which one lasts longer, cause i'm all new to the modern engines, i used to own a 78' K5 Blazer, and back in the days we really didn't give a damn about milage, atleast all the ppl i know didn't, but it seems a very decent issue to deal with when it comes to the modern LT1/LS1 Engines, assuming both took good care and maintenance.. so what do u think? additional notes are welcomed..

i posted here already but it got deleted or something but anyways it said i have a ls1 pushing 140k miles, and it hasn't lost a step. i know there is a 180k mile camaro on here cammed etc. and still runs strong, they are good motors ( i give mine quite a bit of hell ) not sure about the lt1's, can't say for something i dont know much about. for the most part ls1's will last and are good, but as with anything like this i think it comes down to luck alot as far as things breaking etc. hope that helps man.

very helpfull thanks, i know parts brake and u need to change, i remember when i changed the intake manifold on my old 350 and the engine ran like new, i'm more concerned about the block it self,, changing from iron to aluminum.. iron is strong but the aluminum is light and gives u good hp's coz of the weight diff. but is the block strong?

i would say as long as you take good care of them either the lt1 or the ls1 will last a very long time you see many many lt1's with 150,000 to almost 200,000 miles on them and there are a lot of old taxi cabs and police cars with 200,000 hard miles, the nice thing about the lt1 is the basic architecture of the motor is a very proven design and the ls1 is definitely getting to that point they have been out for 9 years and there are a few of them racking up quite a few miles by now, any motor will last a long time if taken care of

Mine still runs strong at 113K, but runs synthetic oil (I think that this really helps).
I'd bet that if you posted this on an lt1 board you would get opposite results to your poll.

iron is stronger, hands down.. thats why people use stroked iron blocks and 200+ shots of nitrous.. its a much denser metal.. but unless your have a **** load of power, our blocks are extremely capable of handling it.. ive seen some junkyard buildups of 5.0's (iron block) with 150k+ that after they blast the block and measure the cylinder walls, find little to no warping or stretching.. those are iron.. aluminum holds less heat though and is obvious much lighter.. just like every other part of a car, theres pros and cons

Let me chime in here. I owned a 1994 Camaro Z28. The car had 164,000 on it when i brought it. The intake was filled with DIRT I mean alot. Lets just say I put a 2600 stall on the car hooker LT's,elec waterpump pretty much every bolt on. The car had 182,760 when i sold it. The guy who brought the car came to pick it up with his father in a 98 Z28 convert. When he got home he said the car pulled even with his fathers LS1 when then drove it back from NJ to PA. Also my current LS1 SS has 51k and my current LT1 has 115,000. My LT1 is up on Jackstands now getting a new Opti and plugs. Both great motors inho but I have personally seen LT1's in 200k mile range and running strong

I think that a LT1 would last longer simply b/c its a iron block and it would resist warping and such. But if you take good care of either motor, they are both going to out last the car....

I haven't seen many 150,000 mile LS1s, but several LT1s with 150,000+ miles still running fine. One with even 195,000+ that has no problems.
That being said, both engines are very durable, but the LT1 takes the win I think.

My 94 has over 120K. I rebuilt the engine at 119K not because I had to too, but was doing a cam thought might as well. When I tore it down it looked new inside. Still had the factory crosshatch in the cylinderwalls I also voted take care of it and it would last. Of course I have seen more ls1 blow up the lt1, but mostly because the ls1's were alot more extreme..
