Default Looking at a 98 SS

Hopefully I'll be joining the LS1 family soon; the one I am looking at is 1998 SS vert. Since I've never owned an LS1 I am not too familar with potential problems or changes through the different years. I'd appreciate it if people could provide me with some info. Thanks

well being a 98 owner the major problem that seems to come in effect when modding the older LS1s is the Rod Bolts arent all that great and if your gonna put a cam in it you will need to upgrade those to the ARP or Katech rod bolts, the 98s are the only year to have the temp gauge that reads right, they have 28 lb fuel injectors instead of the 26 like the newer models, they dont have the LS6 intake manifold, and there oil pumps have been known to crap out on you. they are actually a really good year and alot of members on here have 98s and been getting great HP and TQ #s just like the newer models. i say get the car and you wont regret it, LS1s are the ****

the answers you seek are in the FAQ stickied or in my sig. the biggest difference in 98's is the PCM.

10,900 for SS vert is real reasonable, 98 is fine. grab it...99 in the same shape is 2-3 more thousand so why not go for it?

there are a lot of things that are death traps. please dont tell people what they want and dont want. what if he wants fun in the sun and doesnt want to hassle with t-tops? are they as safe as a coupe? no, but thats understood at the purchase...verts are lots of fun, just be sure to check to see if the top is dried out and tight, as that could result in it splitting soon. good luick with it. theres nothing wrong with 98's. theyre a good running car. good luck.

I'll see what happens with this car. I'm going to the bank tomorrow to apply for a loan and go from there. I'm looking forward to owning my first LS1
