Default Is this 98 Z worth it?

I have a friend of a friend who is a 58yr old guy and has a 98 Z with 90,000 miles. 6 speed. A few minor bolt ons like cat back, short shifter, intake, and a few minor things. Car has a bad headgasket. Runs perfect. No miss firing or anything. When you drive it for a long distance, it gets a little hot. He is willing to sell it for $2,000 to me. I am very mech. inclined but I have most of my knowledge on mustang 4.6/5.4 engine. I havent gotten to involved besides basic stuff on LS1's. What is all involved in doing headgaskets? IM not worried about anything really except putting the rocker/lifters on and set to the correct spec. Can anyone give me a play by play on the head gasket swap? Any input would be great.
thanks guys
Kevin

If you get it for $2k, get some heads and a cam and throw in there while you're into the motor anyway! That way, you get a head/camm'd LS1 for around $5k! That is a SMOKIN deal!

Shouldnt be a too big of a challenge job, since youve already had experience with cars... My little brother did one when he was 12 (no joke), I helped him, but hes also the kind to say "I dont need your help".

Wait a little and Im sure someone whos done it plenty of times on LS1 should come and give a good guide to doing it.
