Depending on the distance to the shop, and how big you go with the cam, you could just drive it (as long as you take it easy) you'll get an SES light, but you knew that, as long as it starts and stays running, it'll drive (at least a short distance) with the mods you've listed

The only problem you may encounter is stuff from the m6 to a4 swap. I know nothing about doing that so I don't know what kind of sensors and stuff change. I drove my cammed bolt-on car without a tune for quite some time. Like a couple months. So you can definatly do it.

Oh and my cam then was a tsp231/237 so it wasn't the smaller one I have now. It actually behaved pretty good for not being tuned.

Have you considered purchasing a tuning suite (HPTuners, EFILive....) and tuning the car yourself? You're shelling out a lot of cash for the mods you have listed.....what's $500 more? That way you could do everything yourself and not have to pay for a re-tune every time you change something. My $.03.

Not everyone feels safe about tuning their car themselves. Plus you need a laptop and would you not need a scanning software as well or is that built into hptuners? Experienced tuners will typically be able to get a good bit more out of a car than a first time tuner as well.

When you buy HPTuners you get the scanner as part of the suite. True, if you don't have a laptop already or just aren't comfortable doing it yourself, you're better off with a dyno tune. Only part that sucks about that is if you ever do anything else to your car that needs tuned you gotta pay again.

That's true. Only thing is most tuners do, or at least they should, give a discount. I know my tuner (soon to become a sponsor) charges half price for re-tunes.

No doubt your idea is better if you knew what you were doing. The ability to make adjustments anywhere anytime is definatly a big plus.

If it an A4 to M6 just drive it. Low throttle only. If M6 to A4 I think I would tow.
