Default Differences between 98-02's Other then intake...

Well as i understand it the 01-02's got the LS6 intakes. ANd the 98 is kinda the red headed step child year with alotta differences from other year LS1's. Alot like the 93 LT1s. Just how bad are the 98s as far as being different from the later years? Any other differences other then daytime running lights in 00? Im looking to but a t/a soon and wanna know what to look for.

Feel free to yell at me if theres a sticky or something about this anywhere!

Their really not that much different the only major reason why people dont like them is b/c their PCM is different, also the 01-02's had no EGR valve and I believe the cam changed slightly in 01 too and the exhaust manifolds changed in 2000

Also, I think the 01+ all have Z rated tires stock, which means they aren't limited to 115 or whatever....

Might want to check cars.com to make sure.

If the car came with out Z-rated tires from the factory, the car was limited to like 115, but if it had Z-rated ( which is a speed rating, meaning the tires can be spun at 155mph or what ever, and not blow up ) there wasn't a speed limiter, but I belive stock cars top out at about 160-170

162 is usually around where it will stop pulling, depending on gears etc. Mine didnt have a speed limiter on it due to coming w/Z rated tires. The 98 'red headed step child' is mostly people assuming they are worse because they were the first year. You have to remember the 97 C5 was the first year for the LS1 not 98 F-body, so no they arent bad. Mine put down 316/341 w/a lid and a cut out !CAT's through an automatic at 100k+. It was no slouch back then. Basically the only differences between a 98 and 99-00 is the metal gas tank, PCM ran differently, and have larger 28lbs injectors, opposed to the 26lb found in 99-00. Thats it, the heads are the same, but how the valve covers/coil packs bolt in are a little different, (perimiter bolts as opposed to center bolts). I love my car!
