Default Lid difference between (98,99) and 2000+

O.k so I installed the SLP lid on my car this weekend and that little IAT sensor was a buger to get off the stock lid, but anyways my question is.....

I have a 99 model so it's not supposed to have the extra air hose that goes in the side of the lid but I noticed that I do have it.

So what I done was I bought a little breather filter and plugged it on the end of the hose cause it couldn't reach the lid and also since it was sucking in air I didn't want it taking away air from my intake anyways.

But what I want to know is:
1. What is the purpose of the hose and what does it go to?
2. Could I have a different engine from a 2000+ car?
3. Did I do the right thing, or will it hurt performance if it's not connected to the lid?

Any advise will be appreciated ~ David

Search air intake recirculation or AIR. You should find everything you need there.

its your AIR. air intake recirculation. it pulls fresh air from your intake and pumps it into your exhaust manifold for some dumb *** emmissions thing, until your cats reach temperature.
its the black hose on the far right of your engine bay and the little air pump is in the fender.

O.k but know I really wonder why I have it since my car is a 99

ya, well i plug that hose on my SLP lid with black duct tape, putting a breather filter ull probably get less flow, because ur losing pressure through that filter

All 98-02 came with AIR, the thing is that the AIR pump in an 00-02 source air from the lid too, so it has that line going into the lid for that purpose. You can put a breather filter on that same line and get a lid with out the hole. And if you have a 98-99 car you can get a plug if you have a lid with the extra hole. I bought my lid used and it had a hole in it for N2O, but I just plugged it w/electrical tape, its been like that for 2 years. I dont think you would loose air from the breather you put there, but you would be bringing extra hot air from the engine bay, I'd just get the plug to tape it off. Your engines the same, just design of the AIR is different.
