Mine does it to, i think its just the headers are bigger and let more air through so you can hear it more when the valves and rockers are going. but thats just me and i have a annoying tick since the damn exhaust clamp on the drivers side header keeps moving but that will be fixed soon.

As long as you didnt mess with the rocker arms (I dont know if higher ratio than 1.7 arms would be considered a 'bolt on' but still) I think your fine. I'm sure you've checked your oil, just make sure its at the right level, that the clamps are tight etc. then I wouldnt sweat it, either drivetrain clatter, piston slap, or even a loose exhaust.

The thinner walled headers let you heard valvetrain noise more than w/ the cast iron manifolds. What you are hearing is the valves hitting seats, rockers on pushrods, pushrods into lifters etc. As long as the "tick" sounds like a sewing machine you are good. If its got an odd note to it, like a random note in the pattern, then something is off.

ls1 noise
lol sewing machines
I do have to say most of the ones I looked at when I was out lookin
were loud . they definately do suffer from noisey operation
but dont ever under estimate any noise that gets louder
with rpms. No ls1 I have ever heard has a noise that gets
louder with rpms that wasnt in need of repair.

well i found out what my tick was and thats the Y pipe started to make its way off the header on the drivers side enough to have a little gap to where i have an exhaust leak now, getting it fixed friday but this pisses me off that the Y pipe did that.
