Default Opinions on build up

I wanted to get everyones opinion I have an stock 02 ws6 a4 and I am looking to build it up when winter hits. I would like to build it up now but don't have a second car to play with. I wanted to see what everyone thinks I should do and see some combos to get some power. I am looking to get in the 6 to 800 hp range.

I don't know how I want to build it up like keeping the stock engine or getting a stroker 383 or a 402. Another thing is going supercharger or turbo, heads building up the bottom end in the like. This winter I am looking to drop anywhere from 8 to 15k on the build up. Should I get suspension and other body work first or go with building up the engine. Just looking for opinions and combos.

One last thing no nitros I don't want to add the giggle gas unless it's a last resort.

wow 800+ is a lot to shoot for, i'd recommend either a 402 stroker with fully forged internals and a twin screw magnacharger, or a TT stock displacement LS1 , also fully forged.

You're going FI without a doubt, it's just what method would you prefer.

I am more looking into the 6 to 700 range but down the road maybe uping the hp. I just am trying to figure stuff out to get it right the first time. I'm not sure if I want to go supercharger or twin t's wanted to get everyones opinion see what combos there are and which are making the best hp's. I was thinking of going with the 402 but that adding some extra weight. I would like to keep the car streetable if possible.

EXACTLY what's the car being used for? (drag, autoX, weekend toy, daily driver etc)
EXACTLY what are you wanting as far as power? (600-800hp is all well and good, but walking in really wanting 750+ to the wheels, and pushing out 100hp less will leave you dissatisfied and might end up blowing your budget out of the water to make your goal attainable).
EXACTLY whats your budget? (6-15k is a good basis, but I think you need to fine tune that a bit more...like 12-15k)
EXACTLY what're you wanting with an engine? (Knowing the power level is all well and good, but you have to tell whether you're REALLY wanting a built long block w/ 400+ CI or just wanting a built stock displacement/mild stroker etc)

Im not meaning to brush you off, or be an *** Im just wanting you to be truthful and refine what you're wanting a bit more. That will not only help us, but help you in making your goals more attainable.

This is going to be a weekend toy, and drag car. I am looking at a built 383 stroker or 402 right now. I am try to see what is the best right now, also looking at a magnacharger twin screw also. I am definitely looking to make in the range of 700 hp. Right now my budget is set at 15 to 16k and I am doing the installation of any work so no labor charges. I am open to any opinions. I need a little education in the gm buildups, I've done a few fords but never a chevy.

There was a writup on a 69 camaro in Chevy High Performance about six months or so ago with an LS1/magnacharger combo making 505hp at the wheels. ran 10's. I loved it because it used the stock crank, oil pan, lots of other stock parts, a 230/230 duration cam, flattop 9.5compression forged pistons. It was actually pretty conservative, but it still made 505hp/501lb ft. at the wheels. Badass.

That guy had an LS1tech sticker under his hood, never seen him on here though that i know of. Anyway i'd definitely go with a setup like that.

hey ive been reading about this stuff alot. I made an approximate price list without labor.

Fuel system - $1500 60lb injectors, FPR, 2x Walbro 340's, lines, rails, fittings, filter.
Rear End - $3500 wheels, tires, S60, LCA's, PHR, Springs, shocks, Torque Arm, Swaybar.
Clutch and Tranny - $4000 they do there magic not sure what that is yet, Textralia or LS7 clutch.
Engine - $4000 stock head 346 with 1/2in head studs, 8.0:1 compression, LS6 intake, cam.
Tuning - $1500 EFILive Commercial, LC1, FP guage, Boost Guage, Water Temp Guage.
Turbo - $5000 either the HiFlo or GMR kit, with a cat back.

about $20g in parts alone for a stock headed 800hp car that will make it in the 10's.

This is my understanding of the list. you could do this in steps(my plan).

Ok, this helps make it a little easier to help you out.

The list Spenser309 gave you is pretty good.

Ive got a similar list in Excel and it works out something along these lines -

Built 402/408 - $8500ish min (might not have heads...figure ~$1500 more w/ that)
LSX 90mm intake/TB - $1200 (might be a touch high but works for now)
Suspension - $1500 (figuring on full suspension...might be a little low)
Rear End - $2100 min
Driveshaft - $375 min for a performance based (can be as high as $800)
Fuel System - $1500 sounds good to me
Exhaust - $800 min (figuring on headers + some sort of catback/true dual system, no cutouts and no cats)
Supercharger - $6000 (Seen some for less, but figuring this will be 700hp+ car this is a decent estimate)
Safety Equip - $1500 min (figuring in a legal cage, DS loop, seats, harness etc)
Trans - $1000 (based on you using a stock auto w/ stall, trans blanket and a few other goodies. If you go built, jump this up to about 2k)
Wheels/tires - $1000 (just figuring on race tires, and something like Pro Stars)

Total - $24,275

Now granted, I might have some #s a little high and some #s a little low. I also might have some parts in there that you really dont give 2 ***** about, or already have that you can use. These are some rough #s that I just pulled up using a couple sponsers as my price basis.

Im not saying you 100% without reason have to use all these parts to make this power. I want everyone who reads this to understand that. This is just my opinion on what it would take to do all that and be "tech legal" come race time, or be as much as a "full build" as I can consider. There's things Im probably forgetting (a tune/software for one) but just figure in what we've given you and work with it from there.

You're the one "writing the check" so to speak, so you decide on what you feel is needed and what isnt.
